Your favorite "dance/rock bands" and where are they now?"

Just off of the Freedom last week and Music Highlights was the band there. They were great! We caught the tail end of one of their sets one evening and decided we had to come back for their next performance.

 

I hope they're still on the Freedom in June! The only band I can remember that we really enjoyed was Music Unlimited.

Hi Rock Cover Band lovers!

 

Just recieved info from the entertainment dept and spoke with the man who books the bands...Great guy, and he shared the difficulties of accurate info after the bands return home on vacation. Gov't stuff and regs...

 

So, here's some misc items we talked about:

 

-They are looking to place bands on Pride and Legend-presently w/o a band. No time frame yet...

 

All this subject to change....

Bands just signed for new contracts...

Music Mix will begin 3/8 on Fascination

Highlight (not Music Highlight-different band) on 3/8 Triumph

Music ( something-begins with a "C") on 3/8 Glory

New band Hilux -on Spirit in March

Music Society-Magic

Music Boardwalk currently on Miracle probably till May, then to Fantasy

Music Unlimited back to Miracle in May

Possible Blood Power back to Magic in May

 

Expect each band to have 8 month cotracts, but also could change as well as the ship.

This is not all-inclusive but just from the notes I jotted down.

Will do e-mail correspodance in future

It was my understanding that the "Music" bands no longer had there contract with CCL. That info is about a year old, so I do not know the status now. I personally haven't seen any of them in quite a number of years. Blood Power, I THINK, is on the Magic currently. I will also highly recommend the BlackJack Band.

 

Reggae, ska, steel drums are all good choices for Caribbean cruise groups.:) Better than the canned stuff. They're not RnR though:(

From Freedom March 18-24 review FREEDOM from "Boatman10"...

As of now the Carnival Entertainment Dept, they are only "planning" to place bands on Legend and Pride:(

 

According to Music Motion web site, they joined Freedom in late March and my guess is that contracts extend for 6-8 months.

 

That's one of the reasons we changed our Aug. cruise to The Freedom from the Pride.

High all, I got an e-mail from Enrique the lead guitar player for Music Boardwalk & they will be on Fantasy starting 4/23/2012 until sometime in August. Great band and very nice. Can play just about anything from 60s, 70s,80s as good if not better than orginal groups.:D

I just heard from Ike about 2013 schedule for "Music Boardwalk". I knew I was way too early but decided to give it a try away. This is what he said:

 

oppss way too early to find out their schedule for JAN 2013. I have no clue yet. good to hear you enjoy the music of boardwalk, as usual the guys are great band plus with one crazy in the band, what else to look for. thats why I put that guy with boardwalk anyway.

Ike, talks about their new keyboard player (Audie) who's great. I'll keep an eye out for next year probably will try around December. Enrique mentioned to me about cut-backs that Carnival will be doing with the bands. I really hope not...... Mary49

Wow, gotta say I never factored in the possibility of hearing a rock cover band on a cruise. Aside from a really good Australian solo singer/guitarist on Imagination in early Feb. it's basically been just island/reggae/pop on the two cruises I've been on.

I'm a radio deejay (metal more than hard-rock) so music -- all kinds as long as it's good -- is fairly important to me, but for a cruise I just figured "okay, it'll be Jimmy Buffett, reggae and calypso for the next ___ days, don't expect to be hearing any (say) Metallica." Really happy to discover that isn't -- necessarily -- the case, as I'll be on Liberty in early October. :)

 

One of the guys I work with is also the head of security at our local arena.

He was already asked and going to work security for the 311 cruise.

Was standing in his office Tuesday, when he got the call to work the Kid Rock cruise coming up.

Said they get free cabin and only have to work during the scheduled concerts and signings.

The rest of the time is theirs. (bands already have their own 24/7 guards)

Tough work if you can get it.

 

Dang. Either one of those would be fun.

 

I was offered a position as guitar-tech "if you can tune a guitar" by one of the bands playing the 70,000 Tons of Metal cruise -- which is 40-bands, full-boat awesome, but very pricey -- but sadly, honesty got in the way and I 'fessed up; I'm not a guitar tech. Maybe I could have learned real quick? :D
