Martini Mom Posted February 22, 2012 #5 Share Posted February 22, 2012 Is it good? It's decent. Nothing like a land-based sushi bar, but good enough. :)
Dawn125408 Posted February 22, 2012 #6 Share Posted February 22, 2012 I've only tried sushi once and couldn't wait to find someplace to spit it out! My daughters love it however. What is the type that doesn't have raw fish in it? Maybe I will try that to see if I like it?

S.S.Oceanlover Posted February 22, 2012 #8 Share Posted February 22, 2012 If you dine early, how do you fit sushi in? I'm usually first in line at 5pm when it opens and only get 1 of each. There are usually 3 different kinds per night. Bill

Bill That's what we do. With early dining, I use it like my appetizer and skip the soup or salad in the MDR.

What is the type that doesn't have raw fish in it? Maybe I will try that to see if I like it? Dawn, I usually get sushi that doesn't contain raw fish. A basic that you could start with would be a California roll, or a variation of it. There's generally cucumber, crab and avocado. Sometimes there will be a variation which could include cream cheese. It's easy to look through a sushi menu and find some yummy ones that aren't raw! Generally, crab and shrimp are served cooked. Or you could always get a deep fried sushi roll. I'm sure some people find this sacrilege, but I think they're divine!

M&M Mousers Posted February 24, 2012 #12 Share Posted February 24, 2012 My daughter says sushi is not raw, sashimi is. I've never seen raw sushi on ship - I like the California rolls. Well, actually I've liked everything I've had on ship. The salmon isn't my favorite, but with enough wasabi even salmon is yummy.

Sushi is actually just a generic term of rice topped with raw OR cooked fish. People typically think of it as always raw but that would be inaccurate. You'll find a million different ways sushi is served but in every instance there will be rice. Sashimi is raw fish/meat sliced and served by itself. Technically the only difference between sushi and sashimi is that there is no rice with sashimi. Sushi is served nightly on every Carnival ship from approximately 5:PM to 8:PM. It is free of charge. There is also saki offered for a charge.

You'll find it typically near the Casino Bar. There are usually 3 main sushi choices each night and they will be different every night.

Sushi is a generic term describing the cooked vinegared rice combined with other ingredients. Some kind of seafood is the most common ingredient that you will find in sushi, but it is by no means the only type of sushi. You can even have authentic sushi that's vegetarian as well, but I don't know if Carnival provides that kind.
Rare skittl1321 Posted February 24, 2012 #19 Share Posted February 24, 2012 We've found Carnival's sushi to be weird. I've never seen a basic california roll. But we've had an asparagus and crab roll... We like sushi so we always try one piece of everything, but it doesn't compare to going out to a sushi place on land (I want to cruise out of San Diego just to get pre-cruise sushi again! And we have decent sushi here in Iowa for being landlocked...)

elcuchio24 Posted February 24, 2012 #21 Share Posted February 24, 2012 It's alright. Nothing fantastic though. Like a nice place in a mall. They do have a few raw selections, but not much, and usually that is either tuna or salmon nigiri. Salmon/tuna/shrimp nigiri, spicey tuna, cali, vegi roll. That's about it. Premade plates, but as many as you like.
