Not Just Another Suite Perks Question

I apologize in advance if this is too annoying to deal with.

This is an attempt to help out some newbies and set my mind at ease, keep in mind I spent a fair amount of time looking, here and on the NCL site.

I am going to try to make this as painless as I possibly can, so here goes:

I am aware of this thread on Suite Amenities (and many others)

http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1462312&highlight=suite+amenities

But I have questions regarding any plans to reduce the perks available on non Haven suites, as far as OFFICIAL NCL in writing presence is concerned (or lack thereof), especially on their website. I am not referring to conjecture, or guesses, but actual REAL info.

For someone who hasn't been to the NCL website before these changes (I have), it can be confusing, and keeps people wondering here if they get any perks on non Haven Suites, hence all the posts IMHO.

After much searching on the current version of their site, all I can see is a really hard to find buried list of amenities on the Haven section of the NCL site, which again only refers to Haven Suites. Listed here: http://thehaven.ncl.com/assets/docs/Haven_amenities_chart.pdf

If there is a link that IS on the NCL site about regular non Haven Suites i.e. SF, SE, SC categories, please let me know (please not some link that is buried deeper than the Haven one, that may soon be unavailable).

Or maybe NCL would like to chime in on this?

Is your question "is NCL planning to do away with some perks in "non Haven" suites?"

I was really trying to help out someone on another post, trying to answer their question about perks for a penthouse. And I couldn't find any definitive proof on the NCL site that there were any perks other than butler and concierge for an SC or lower suite, only Haven Suites.

I know from my own recent experience that there are perks for non Haven suites, but the fact that there is nothing in their promotional material i.e. their website, leads me to believe that they may make a change. Yes it is speculative, but lack of documentation on their site made me raise an eyebrow.

Please pardon this engineer's mind, who thinks too much and sees lack of documentation as a possible sign of imminent change. :)

I have a document that my PCC sent me that outlines all the amenities for all suites... I can post it again if you would like...

What makes you think there are plans to reduce suite amenities for non-haven suites?

Hi Cliff,

I did see your document, no need to re-post. I didn't realize it was sent by your PCC. Thanks!!

Have I stayed up too late and is it just me, but I have no idea what the question is?

:) I think the issue is that the suite perks on NCL.com are listed as Haven perks and the question was if other suite types were losing their perks.

The consensus is that they aren't.

I guess the question I'm really trying to ask is, why has NCL removed everything related to NON HAVEN SUITE AMENITIES from their website? Is it oversight, or is it planned?

I've never seen a full list of suite amenities on the ncl.com site. The description of the Haven Suites and the other suites are identical, only mentioning butler and concierge services. I believe that's why these listings are posted on here, they were not available on the main site.

Their reason for that is unknown, but I went looking for the details elsewhere for my Dawn cruise in 2005, again in 2007 and again in 2011, and the info was never on their site.

There was a full amenities chart on the site for all suites, it was under the now removed Suites and Villas section of the site, which now redirects to the Haven section. The link used to be

http://www.nclsuitesandvillas.com/pages/suitesvillasmore.php

And the brochure pdf on the site still reads Haven amenities for Jewel class ships, and mentions nothing about non Haven.

This is why I am asking these questions.

That link appears to not only take you to the Haven, but the pictures are of the Epic only. All Epic suites get the same access to the Haven, so perhaps the link was supposed to be for that.

I agree it's confusing, but I don't think we need to be concerned about them taking away all of the other amenities. Not to say it isn't possible, but I think it would be a bad business decision.

I think the answer my be the perks are different depending on the ship you are on. I was in 2 bedroom suite on Pearl and an aft penthouse on the Gem. We did not have access to the Haven area on either ship, but we had all the other suite perks. The future cruise I have on the Epic a spa suite and we have total access to the haven area and all other suite perks as well.

So I felt I would give this the old college try:

I called NCL Latitudes desk and asked them to send me an amenities chart for suites, and that the only info on their site was for Haven suite amenities. I explained that I am booked for a non-Haven suite in 38 days on the Gem and want to verify the amenities. I explained there used to be a chart for all suite amenities on the website, but I could no longer find it, I could only find an amenities chart for the Haven suites. And the the very nice lady on the phone transferred me to the reservations desk.

I asked the reservations lady (also extremely nice) the same questions and she asked me if I had an existing reservation. I told her I did and she pulled up my info on her computer and asked how she could help me. I explained the question a second time, looking for an amenities chart for non Haven suites. I also asked them to send me something in writing listing the amenities. She proceeded to read the perks to me over the phone, describing pretty much the same perks as we all know of already. After we had a pleasant conversation about how pampered I would be on the cruise, she said she would email them to me.

This was over two hours ago, I have not received them yet. :)

I want to make it clear that I don't really believe they are cutting the perks, yet. I do however find it odd that it is so difficult to get it in writing now when it used to be so readily available. I also still believe it would be a horrible business decision to cut down on the perks. But these are some challenging financial times. I don't think it is a stretch to conclude that it may happen in the future.

You all may think this is a terrible waste of your time, but I tried to get suite amenities in writing from NCL, and it was very pleasantly avoided by them.

I am fully prepared to eat my words, and even welcome the chance to do so. Does anyone else care to give it a go? Or am I just nuts for trying? :)

I've also had them read off the list and then tell me they aren't allowed to send it out. I don't have a PCC as I book through Casinos at Sea more often than not, so when I talk to someone there, we have no relationship.

I believe the PCCs take a bit more care with their clients (as they should) and perhaps bend the rules on emailing the information, where those at the reservations desk don't seem to do it or know that they can.

I think it comes down to having it in writing and if there is a change, even slight, it puts them in a bad position. I'm not concerned, I sail in 2.5 weeks in a PH suite and I sailed in an OS at the beginning of January. Outside of the Haven access and the free liquor, I'm confident everything else will be the same.

It might just be that things can change frequently, like the name brands on the shower amenities may change as contracts come and go that they are reluctant to publish the detailed specifics. In any case, the basic services and amenities remain the same... As long as we still get our Cagneys breakfast and lunches... I'm good :D

B&L at Cagney's is what I was most concerned with as well. :D

We had the same Romance suite on two cruises on the Gem in 2008 and again in 2010. The first one was had free DVD's delivered by the butler and the second one, there was a charge. First NCL cruise in 2007, a glass of chanpagne for every passenger, 2nd one none. Things change without notice. We had a great cruise all three times, but I would insist on having a written list that included Cagneys for b and l and priority tenders, the only perks we really want.

The price difference between the mini-suites and the first level full suites isn't a small one and I can't imagine paying so much more if all you got was more space. They'd have to lower the price to sell them if there were no perks included.
