went with my mom a few times in the mid 70's to paradise island, bahama area and stayed on the beach with casino...mom passed away and am going back in a few months-. I know things have changed a lot but am trying to figure out where i stayed. where there a lot of hotels around back then? i remember meeting a band that played there called" from now on" it had a casino also- hotel staff or at least one guy used to call me mean man scarano... so funny that i remember that...lol

is there a sight that has the History that lists such hotels?

would love to visit for memories... i was only about 7-10 years of age:)

The hotels on the island at the time were the brittania towers, Loews, Sheraton Grand and the Holiday Inn at Pirates Cove.

Brittania Towers and Loews are now the beach and coral towers at Atlantis. This is where the casino was located.

Sheraton Grand is now the Riu and Holiday Inn was impoded and is now the Cove - Atlantis.

Was it merv Griffin's Paradise Island Resorts?? He took over the Loews and Brittania towers (with the casino) ..

Not sure what date he took over.. he bought it from Trump..

There was no other casino on PI..

Tommy2811 -

We stayed in these hotels in the late-seventies. I think when we were there, the hotels might have been the Britannia Beach and Lowes, with the casino connecting the two.

There is a rotunda area of Atlantis with a few restaurants that has remained unchanged and was part of the original hotels. ( or at least it was unchanged the last time we visited.) If you go back, you will recognize the area immediately. We head back every now and then to take a photo at the restaurant signs. Some of the restaurant names have remained the same for 35 years. The last time we were there we had no problem getting to this this area. I hope hotel security still allows non guests to see this part of the hotel

Enjoy your trip back in time!

Hi scubagirrl...

One more thing I think I remember-

I think the strew market was very close and right over a small bridge...

could be wrong though...

There was a small straw market where the Paradise Island Ferry Terminal is not located. this may be what you are thinking of.

there used to be a small bridge over the entrance to the lagoon, the lagoon entrance has been moved, and the bridge is now covered by the main road leading to Atlantis Main entrance.
