saza79 Posted April 21, 2005 #1 Share Posted April 21, 2005 My Husband and I are trying to book our "last minute" Honeymoon on a Cruise and Costa Cruises seems to offer the best itinerary for the best price. We are looking at the Costa Fortuna which sails the Mediterranean. I am wondering about "onboard" purchases and what the accepted currency is? I fear that we may lose money in the exchange for purchases such as drinks and the spa? Are prices in US dollars? Also, do they offer food menus in different languages? We are concerned about feeling out of place because we have heard that the passengers are about 85% Europeans, and 15% Americans. Any advice or comments? Jo42 Posted April 21, 2005 #2 Share Posted April 21, 2005 On board currency whilst in the Med is the Euro, you can exchange your dollars at the desk or bring euros and your CC. I think most Americans find it quite expensive. I am from the UK and have no problem with understanding or being understood and find prices not too bad ( but my holidays in the USA have been less expensive). IMO its a great choice at the price
Marie-Claude Posted April 22, 2005 #3 Share Posted April 22, 2005 Hi we're from Montreal Canada, and went on the Costa Magica last January. Currency on board is Euro. The best place to exchange your USD is at the casino as they charge the same exchange rate as the purser, but they don't charge a fee (and the purser does). All onboard purchases are charged on your Costa card which is paid from your CC, in Euro. English is widely spoken, but Italian, French and Spanish comes before! We like the international flair that this cruise has, and it's a great opportunity to meet people from all over the place. The Maitre D usually puts people of same language together - there were only 15 french canadian onboard our cruise and we were all sitting close to one another. Whatever your choice is, enjoy and have fun!
OrangeAndBlue Posted April 23, 2005 #4 Share Posted April 23, 2005 Are all Costa cruises onboard purchases charged in Euros? Or just the cruises that do the European itineraries? I am just curious if the Caribbean itineraries have the same policy. Paul
