We've done South Beach a few years ago but want to try classic Miami for a few days. Any thoughts or ideas of where to stay, where to eat, what to see and do? We can do 2 nights pre cruise. we are in our mid 40's. We are moderately active. While we enjoy glitz and glamour our budget doesn't fit the category so well.

Look at Coconut Grove - lots of shops, restaurants and bars all within walking distance of several good hotel options. As long as you are early November (pre-Thanksgiving), prices should be very reasonable. Good luck! :)

Another option could be downtown Miami check out rates at the new Hampton Inn on Brickell, very chic hotel without the chic price. Another favorite but a bit out of downtown proper is the Hotel Urbano. Downtown also makes other parts of the city accessible via public transit.
