Petrochelli Posted March 13, 2012 #1 Share Posted March 13, 2012 Just heard that the Aurora is taking armed Royal Navy Marines on board due to high pirate activity. The marines are apparently staying on board till the ship reaches Egypt also, passengers will be practising pirate drill later today. It will be hard hats and gas masks next. Cheers Petrochelli. Scorpio41 Posted March 13, 2012 #3 Share Posted March 13, 2012 The lady on the P&O community forum blogged this morning about their pirate drill and not being allowed on certain decks between sunset and sunrise.
PRINCESSTHE BEST Posted March 13, 2012 #4 Share Posted March 13, 2012 This is a regular occurence when transiting the Suez and the Indian Ocean. We had them onboard Arcadia with us on the World cruise last March. We had a briefing from the Naval Officer in charge who stated that they have very strict rules of engagement. The only nations that take a zero tolerence policy are China and Russia apparently.
Slow Foxtrot Posted March 13, 2012 #5 Share Posted March 13, 2012 There was a similar occurrence aboard Oriana in January this year. In pirate waters we were escorted by the armed anti-pirate vessel 'Sea Knight' and we also had three armed guards on board who finally disembarked off the coast of Sri Lanka. It seems preposterous that a handful of men in a motorised skiff could hi-jack a huge 69,000 tonnes Cruise Liner and so it should be if it were not for spineless politicians terrified of protecting everyone's human rights - with the exception of the passengers! Rant over!
