Bayonne Parking Update 3/19/12

Just returned from 12 days on the Silhouette. We parked at Premier Parking lot in Bayonne which is 1.5 miles from the port, cost $11.99 per day and they offered us a 10% discount when we booked. Anyway, the lot was a secured fenced in lot that had a combination gravel/dirt base. It doesn't matter because they park your car at the entrance and bring you your keys back. The lot is part of some kind of trucking company or place they bring cars that were in accidents, but the cruise parking is done away from any kind of business activities.

Two van/SUV type vehicles (brand new) run continuosly between the terminal and lot. We arrived at 10:45 AM and were on our way by 11:00 with a few other folks that arrived around the same time as us. GPS is helpful to find the lot, when we arrived only a small sign in the street was present but when we returned a larger more permanent sign was mounted on the fence. The port is not far, however, whether your taking a car service or driving and parking at the port yourself, there is a line of traffic going in that all must endure, its just the way they set up the drop-off and pick-up points. Anyway it took about 20 minutes for a 2 minute ride but no one escapes it regardless of how you get there. They give you a phone number to call when you return to arrange pickup. We were onboard by 12.

Upon our return on Saturday morning, we waited until we cleared customs and contacted Premier, they had a representative waiting in the pick-up area and he approached us as we were headed for the pick-up area (#109, dropped off at #117). He advised pick-up would be momentarily and sure enough with 2 minutes an SUV appeared. Driver loaded us (4 people) and off we went, this was approximately 9:50AM, only pick ups being made as a little early for the next drop offs. Back to the lot in a flash, under 5 minutes and picked up the car and off we were, back home in Point Pleasant by a litle past 11. Savings amounted to around $75 over parking at the port, as we tipped the driver a $10 spot on each trip, of course thats at your discretion but the drivers were nice and deserved something.

So, if you want to save a few bucks, go with Premier, if not, then the port parking may be for you. Personally, I would use them again in a heartbeat but some folks don't like the idea. Just to let others know, the lot works and your car appears to be as safe as any other lot in that area.
