eberry2001 Posted March 25, 2012 #1 Share Posted March 25, 2012 Hello, Myself, wife and another couple will be in progresso for the second time. This time we want to goto Merida, but i also want to stop at Dzibilchaltun. But we dont want to spend to much time at the ruins. Then some of the more picturesque places in merida. My question is would it be better to try and get a taxi for the whole day or just by the portions of the trip? The wife and other wife are from mexico so language and haggling are not a problem. We leave on March 31st so any advice is great!
WilliamLawson Posted March 26, 2012 #2 Share Posted March 26, 2012 Here are some standard fares for taxis from Progreso, from the always informative YucatanToday website. The only modification is that they no longer leave from the Casa de Cultura in Progreso, but from an adapted parking lot/market area close by. The City of Progreso has authorized official taxi fares for departures from the Casa de Cultura (effective Feb. 2011). Rates are per vehicle. Car: up to 4 passengers. Van: up to 10 passengers. SERVICE / LENGTH / VAN / CAR Shuttle / 15 min. / $12 USD / $8 USD Dzibilchaltun / 3 hrs. / $80 USD / $60 USD Dzibilchaltun & Merida / 4 hrs. / $130 USD / $100 USD Golf Club one way / 30 min. / $50 USD / $40 USD Golf Club / 3 hrs. / $100 USD / $80 USD Merida one way / 40 min. / $50 USD / $40 USD Merida shopping / 3 hours / $100 USD / $70 USD Merida airport / 50 min. / $50 USD / $40 USD Reef Club & Xcambo / 3 hrs. / $80 USD / $60 USD Uxmal / 5 hrs. / $180 USD / $160 USD Chichen Itza / 6 hrs. / $200 USD / $180 USD
cadoocrazy Posted July 7, 2012 #3 Share Posted July 7, 2012 For the 'combined' taxi fare, Dzib & Merida in particular, those are full-loop-trip prices, true? Also, can the order of place visited be changed? SERVICE / LENGTH / VAN / CAR Dzibilchaltun & Merida / 4 hrs. / $130 USD / $100 USD
WilliamLawson Posted July 7, 2012 #4 Share Posted July 7, 2012 Yes, they are round trip prices!
cadoocrazy Posted July 17, 2012 #5 Share Posted July 17, 2012 Car: up to 4 passengers. Van: up to 10 passengers. SERVICE / LENGTH / VAN / CAR Dzibilchaltun & Merida / 4 hrs. / $130 USD / $100 USD Couple more questions - - Are all the drivers on a set, ordered route, or can the order of places visited be changed? Seems like it might be better to do Merida first, then the ruins. - Would four tall adults be comfortable with the car option? Assuming these aren't Crown Victoria taxis, it seems like the Van might be a better option.
WilliamLawson Posted July 18, 2012 #6 Share Posted July 18, 2012 The cars are almost always Nissan models, like the Sentra. If you are taxi-ing, you can call the shots; no set route.
