Did I once read that if you ordered your drinks in a different cup they cost less???? Are we talking about not getting the whale tail or Carnival glass or the Fish cup and asking for a plastic cup???? What is the price difference????

Thanks for your help,

Don't quote me on this, but I vaguely remember it being about $1 less

I think you care correct but I believe the only area you can get a smaller plastic glass in the Lido area. If you are in the casino or bars they always charge the full price.

If you get a drink in a smaller glass, yes they do charge less. If you already have a special glass (such as the fun ship glass), you can have them reuse it and it will cost $1.00 less. At least, the last time we cruised, that is what we were charged.

If you get the special drink the first day in the souvenir glass, you can re-use the glass the rest of the week and it's cheaper for the refills. I'm not a drinker so I don't know the exact price but I do know it's cheaper.

Im not sure but I thought I read if you re-use your "specialty glasses" you pay the same price but get a larger drink ? Someone will come along and clear this up :D:confused:

How would the 2nd drink be larger if you are reusing your specialty glass?

We have done weird things on cruises, including--

Measuring cabin widths because our cabin seemed narrower than the other, right-next-door same category cabin, in our party. (It was)

and

Measuring the amount of liquid refreshment in a plastic DOD glass and a regular glass. They hold the same amount of liquid. Whether you get the same amount does depend on the bartender.

Yep, we poured water from a DOD hurricane cup to a regular cup. Doings things like this guarantees we will never be bored on a cruise :D.

My understanding is that the specialty glasses, whale tail, mirror ball, monkey head, are considerable more than the standard dod glass. Then if you re-use the dod glass you get a discount.

There are several ways you can get your drink. 1. There are the DOD glasses - I can't remember what the cost is for those, but there is a small discount if you use your DOD glass to get another drink in it (not sure what that cost is either, I'm not a fan of the DOD drinks). 2. There are the specialty glasses (whale tail, disco ball, fish) which are $6.50 for the glass PLUS whatever the cost of the drink is (and inside of these specialty glasses are a disposable 10 oz cup), there might be a small discount if you use this cup for refills, but I don't know ... I only bought the disco ball cup without the drink - the monkey head drink I am not sure of ... I believe the original cost is around $15 (drink and cup) with a small discount for using your monkey for another monkey drink. 3. Just order your drink (I get things like Kiss on the Lips, Pina Colada, etc that aren't DOD drinks) and get a regular hurricane glass that you don't get to keep and continue to pay $8 something for each drink. 4. Drinks like what my husband gets (rum and coke) are served in an 8 or 10 oz glass/cup for $6 something, and again, you don't get to keep the glass.

I noticed that on the bar menu, for the Fun Ship, it costs $7.50 for the drink in a 15oz souvenir glass... then $6.75 to refill the glass (with another Fun Ship).

I'm sure the price of refills will vary depending on which drink you order.

For the ships that have/will have the 2.0 upgrades, one can purchase a "specialty/souvenoir glass" for 9.95. These are not the monkey head, disco ball, etc., but rather the Tiki cups, twister cups, etc. that are 16 oz. in size. Then you can refill that glass all week for the price of the regular 12 oz. drink price which is 7.25. Thus, you are getting 16 oz. for the price of 12 oz. each time.

These glasses are available at the the Red Frog Rum bar and the Blue Iguana Tequilla bar. Here is one of the menus, and on page two, it mentions this.

It has been our experience that they don't actually re-use the glass. They give you a new one and take your old one. And with the hurricane glasses, you could always find them laying around where people got tired of carrying them around so they just left them.
