Shopping Mall near Sydney Cruise Terminal

Recommended Posts

This is an idea.

In Dec 2012, we fly into Sydney at about noon. The Royal Carribean ship departs at 11pm.

The plan is to get to the ship once we arrive, deposit the luggage and get some quick lunch.

Then, the idea is to leave the ship, take a cab to the nearest mall to do some shopping. We want to buy some stuff, including car seats and Milo.

Questions:

1) Are we allowed to leave the ship after we checked in?

2) Which is the nearest mall that we can go and how far? (we will take a cab)

For 1) yes, you can get off once checked in. Just be back before departure ;-)

For 2) the nearest shopping centre is Westfield Sydney city. However, I don't think there are any stores with child seats. It's more a fashion, food and services centre being based in the city. Here's a link if you want to look through: http://www.westfield.com.au/sydney/directory/search/store

For child seats you can look at Grace Bros (whoops, Myer) and David Jones which are neighbouring, as these are department stores and would have some range. Alternatively, the nearest major suburban shopping centre I'd say is Westfield Bondi Junction - very close to Bondi if you wanted to tie in a trip there. BJ is about 8km away by car I'd estimate. Bondi is then a bus ride away if you go by taxi.

I think that Myers in the city should have car seats. It is an interesting problem as the city is not where families go to buy that type of thing. Best check Myers and David Jones online. I wonder if you can buy online and get them delivered to the ship?

yes, you can get off the ship once you have formally checked in. we did that in feb this year....just wanted to walk around circular quay and take photos of our ship at dock at the overseas passenger terminal.

you can hop on to the free green 555 bus to go from circular quay to market street which is where you will find myers department store. please note the operating hours of the free 555 bus.

another department store is woolworths and it is a block up george street from myers (at market street). there is a supermarket in the basement level.

Thank you. This is very useful information indeed!

I just looked at the map - really good route.

Question - how far is the bus-stop from the cruise ship?

distance of overseas passenger terminal to bus stop for 555 bus would be about 600 metres.

there is plenty to see along the way..the museum of contemporary art (free entry, just reopened after renovations), ferry wharves etc.

place to catch the free 555 bus is where you see afred st marked on the map (near phillip street end)
