kasil Posted March 29, 2012 #1 Share Posted March 29, 2012 Just how wet do your shoes get while cavetubing? Is it like walking through puddles or are you soaked through and your shoes are trashed? Thanks for the help.:)
cruisergrandma Posted March 29, 2012 #2 Share Posted March 29, 2012 They will be soaked. You walk into the water to get onto your tube and then wear them while floating through the caves. You will definitely need to take dry shoes to change into.
SingingPixie Posted March 29, 2012 #3 Share Posted March 29, 2012 Exactly. You walk across a creek (at least up to my thighs) a couple times before you get to the embarkation point, and then again have your feet submerged as you get into the tube. They will be soaked. They did have bins to collect/dry out/donate soaked shoes near the changing area, if that idea appeals to you. I did that with an old/ready to retire pair of running shoes. topspot Posted March 31, 2012 #5 Share Posted March 31, 2012 We used water shoes like you could get at Walmart for less than 10.00. We changed into them before we got off of the bus, and then put our regualr shoes on when we changed into dry clothes.
TakeMeAway1001 Posted April 1, 2012 #6 Share Posted April 1, 2012 I bought an inexpensive pair of sneakers at Walmart before we left for our trip for under $10 and when we got back to the bus after tubing the locals were there to collect them and wash them. They are very grateful for the donation of shoes and it saved us having to carry them back to the ship.
Rare Banditswife Posted April 4, 2012 #7 Share Posted April 4, 2012 I would recommend an old pair of tennis shoes too. The walk to the drop in point was a bit rugged w/ just water shoes. DH had thicker soles on his, which was better. I didn't realize they needed shoes there- that's a good idea- leaving your old ones. Thanks
ready4travel Posted April 5, 2012 #8 Share Posted April 5, 2012 Would Tevas with straps work OK or do you need to protect your toes?

Rare mitsugirly Posted April 10, 2012 #12 Share Posted April 10, 2012 We just wore water shoes the entire time. They were dry by the time we got back to the van. No problems, nothing that will ruin and no carrying anything extra. Worked great. :)

Thanks for the help.:) You definitely need water shoes! If you don't want to bring your own, they rent them on site for $3. I suggest packing your own. Tralynn Posted April 11, 2012 #14 Share Posted April 11, 2012 Would Tevas with straps work OK or do you need to protect your toes? This is exactly what I used and did not have any problems with the open toes.
ready4travel Posted April 12, 2012 #15 Share Posted April 12, 2012 Megmno and Tralynn, thanks for weighing in on good experiences with Tevas. I do have water shoes, but I'd really rather wear the Tevas since we have a 30-minute hike through the woods first.
