binkey36 Posted March 31, 2012 #2 Share Posted March 31, 2012 Has the Star been refurbished recently? Trying to decide between Golden and Star for Hawaii 2013. Yep...The Star was in dry dock in Nov 2011 ( I believe) for about 3 1/2 weeks.
caribill Posted March 31, 2012 #3 Share Posted March 31, 2012 Depends what you are looking for in the way of refurbishment. Some of the changes to the Star were: o New dessert/bread area in the Horizon court with wider aisles in the original food islands area o Conversion of the steakhouse to the Crown Grill o Moving ofn the wedding chapel from deck 7 to near the Spa on deck 15 o Recarpeting some of the areas around the atrium on decks 6 and 7 o New tables/chairs around the Calypso pool area o Resdesign of the main display area of the art gallery What was not refurbished: o cabins
Nancyquilts Posted April 4, 2012 #4 Share Posted April 4, 2012 I've taken both to Hawaii and prefer Golden. They have a better Hawaiian program with the duo of Elua on board. There are interesting leis to make, and more Hawaiian style entertainment.

I thought I read that David Cole - who worked with Elua to develop the Hawaiian program - was doing Hawaiian runs on Sapphire Princess...?

I know they were on Golden a year ago and not on Star this year.

Elua Posted April 11, 2012 #9 Share Posted April 11, 2012 Aloha Kakou, Leialoha and I are always to be found on whichever Princess ship is doing Hawai'i full time...for the last four seasons, it has been the Golden Princess, and as far as we know, we will be back on the Golden for the 2012-13 season. David Cole is indeed to be found on the Sapphire Princess. Princess is going to be offering Hawaiian itineraries on quite a few of their ships in the coming year or so...never can get enough aloha.
