what is there to do here? apart from the mosaics and churches, hubby and friends are going off to the ferrari museum, and us ladies would like to something on our own while they are away playing with cars

Well, in between the mosaics and churches are lots of nice cafe and shops. ;)

On rci there was a charge, but you could purchase in advance at excursions desk or through your cabin tv. I think out was about $10pp. You cannot walk it so this is a good buy. I would go to the 2 or 3 most beautiful churches and skip the rest. Some are not nearly as impressive as the others. Then stop for some ice cream or snack and head back to the ship early. Note there were lines for the shuttle bus back but they were not too bad. Another reason to head back early.
