NCL Spirit - March 25 - April 1

Just a few comments/observations about our most recent cruise on the Spirit.

We like that ship. Yes, she isn't the newest, but it is still a good ship. We've been on it three times now. The only problem we had was our closet door was off its track and wouldn't open. They fixed it quickly after we called it in.

I was a little leery of sailing during the Spring Break time frame. But the ship was MUCH quieter than we anticipated. I guess not too many kids can afford to cruise. And the 21 year age limit was something I forgot about, too.

Didn't stop our cabin neighbors from disrupting our nights, though. Between alternating fights and what I call "cackling" sessions (high pitched laughing and squealing), they managed to disrupt our sleep quite a few times. We've never called security or the purser's desk on anyone, but I was quite tempted. One night it went on until 3:30 a.m.

I never encountered more cigars before than on this trip, too. Wonder what was up with that.

We aren't gourmands, obviously, but we enjoyed our meals in the Windows Dining Room. We ate breakfast and dinner there almost exclusively. One night we went to the Asian restaurant and thoroughly enjoyed that except it was WAY too much food. Service at the Windows Dining room was exceptional. We really enjoyed eating lunch at the Blue Lagoon. Whenever we were on the ship for lunch we ate there, mostly the chicken wings. I really liked the tomato soup, too.

Our cabin steward was a gem. Very efficient. We spend a lot of time in our cabin so we appreciated it when he serviced our cabin quickly while we were gone for breakfast or dinner.

We did all of our tours through NCL. We loved the Parrot Tree resort beach break on Roatan. If you take that one, don't just stay at the lagoon. The pool is fabulous. And the buffet lunch was really outstanding. And if you can ever get a tour with a guide called Michael Price, you will be very, very lucky. He had us laughing from the time we got on the bus at the pier until we got back off after the tour.

The Belize Zoo and River wildlife tour was pretty sad. The zoo was OK, the river trip was not as OK. You go down the river on such high speed boats that you miss a lot. And the buffet lunch was a disaster. We got to the venue, there must have been 200 or more people milling around. The line to get lunch was VERY long and lunch was simply sad. About three tablespoons of rice and beans, a single chicken leg, and a tiny salad.

We enjoyed the Playa Mia beach break on Cozumel. The beach break at Costa Maya, not so much. Next time I think we'll just stay at Senor Frog's by the dock.

Embarkation and debarkation was smooth and efficient. We were Casinos at Sea guests, so got a little extra TLC on embarkation and did the walk-off after the cruise. We got to our car at the Harrah's parking garage by 8:00 a.m.

Speaking of Casinos at Sea, we weren't able to get a firm answer about whether or not the free drink cards were going to be discontinued or not. One casino person said they would be limited to those people who are "high rollers," another said they didn't hear anything about them being discontinued. And my husband actually won at the casino. There was a "Sun and Moon" machine that kept paying him a few hundred bucks every time he sat down at it. It is the one you see on the right hand side as you are walking into the casino. I didn't lose a single dime on the whole trip, either. I left home with $300 in my purse, came home with $300 even though we visited three land based casinos before the cruise. I consider that a win !!!

We don't keep the dailies. And we are such cabin potatoes that I don't know if any of the activities you asked about were held or not. That is REALLY embarassing.

I'm confused about the "food issues." I don't remember posting about any problems with food. Do you maybe have me confused with someone else?
