debintexas Posted April 3, 2012 #1 Share Posted April 3, 2012 We're not too interested in the long trek to Berlin from our Warnemunde port. Is the Scherwin Castle excursion (yes, a Princess excursion) worth taking? Thanks.
Sauer-kraut Posted April 4, 2012 #2 Share Posted April 4, 2012 Yes it is, but you can probably do it on your own easily for less money. If you read ROSTOCKER's live in Warnemunde you can find out how to do this easily by train. She also has a website she's created with great information, here is the page on Schwerin: http://travelanni.webs.com/schwerin.htm Many on this board have done the Schwerin trip and enjoyed themselves. I agree wholeheartedly. We followed Anni's recommendations and had a wonderful self-guided excursion to Schwerin. Cost was very reasonable for transport. We had a very enjoyable lunch in a small hotel restaurant by the park, walked the pedestrian friendly old town shopping area and strolled to the castle and toured it. It was a very enjoyable day. We also explored Rostock and Warnemuende and had plenty of time for all of it. There is no need to do a ship's tour and be herded around.
Rare brazilgirl Posted April 4, 2012 #4 Share Posted April 4, 2012 We rented a car in Warnemunde and drove to Lubeck ...we had an amazing day. We could have done Schwerin too , but opted not to because we had our kids with us and didn´t want to tire them out. The area is lovely and the roads are great. My husband loved testing out the German roads with no speed limit! Lol! Car rental is a great option with GPS .
Genessa Posted April 7, 2012 #5 Share Posted April 7, 2012 we did the Schwerin tour - or one of them, think there were two offered on our cruise. We enjoyed it quite a bit, but, I have to say what both dh & I remember most of that excursion was our guide, Tom. Just Tom, not Thomas ;). He regaled us the entire bus ride with stories of his life before and after the Iron Curtain and happily answered hundreds of questions. Tom was one of the best, out of many wonderful guides, we've had on excursions in Europe. When he saw the restaurant we went to was getting "behind" in serving all the visitors, he even went behind the buffet line and began helping serve the food. He handed over his personal umbrella to someone who had no rain covering.
