Has anyone purchased a room upgrade when they are boarding?

Can't be done. The check-in people don't have access to the booking site. Once you board, you can inquire about an upgrade and should one be available (very unlikely), it would be at the full fare price that you would have paid to upgrade yourself pre-cruise.

In the last 10 years, I've never seen a cruise that had any "extra" cabins at boarding. On all our sailings there have been signs at the pursers desk stating that the ship is full.

Agree completely even though while en route to the elevators you pass cabin after cabin with empty guest name tag holders on so many doors...

Hi All

But just because a cabin has no name does not mean that knowone is at home,

plus there are always a few empty cabins for use when things go wrong

have been offered another cabin when we complained about ours

yours Shogun

Quite a few people remove the tag. Just because there's no tag doesn't mean the cabin is empty or hasn't been paid for.

True. It just being strange to find groups of 4 or 6 in a row...

The ship "sailing full" sign on the passengers services desk is always put out so that the majority will not ask about upgrades. ;)
Or, they may really be sailing full. One way or the other, most Princess cruises sail full. Sometimes, a few cabins are left unsold and are held for guest entertainers or lecturers who may be embarking at a different port.
