wework2play Posted April 4, 2012 #1 Share Posted April 4, 2012 When I booked, I chose a forward (way forward) balcony room on the Triumph. Now that I look at it on the deck plans, I'm worried I may regret being that far from things like pizza, buffet and pools. We are taking the kids and I remember from last time there were several runs back and forth to the pizzeria. Are there any advantages to being in the front of the ship? I hope I don't regret my decison.

I know you will get varying responses as many people here have preferences to either aft or fwd... should be interesting !

Had a forward cabin on the Miracle in December and there was too much rockin-n-rollin going on for me IMHO.

tikimon Posted April 5, 2012 #5 Share Posted April 5, 2012 Any cabin location is better than being locked down on dry land :p Don't worry about it, just go and have a good time. ;)
navybaby1113 Posted April 5, 2012 #6 Share Posted April 5, 2012 I prefer aft because you're closer to food, plus I feel less movement back there. Bring some seasick meds just in case and enjoy your cruise!
Irishlinny Posted April 5, 2012 #7 Share Posted April 5, 2012 We prefer aft because most of the places we go are aft or midship...depends on where you spend the most time, I guess. The one perk about being forward is it doesn't take as long to walk to your cabin after being in port!;) If you think it's going to bother you, see if there are any cabins elsewhere in your category...:)
funinthesun1964 Posted April 5, 2012 #8 Share Posted April 5, 2012 I prefer aft over forward. If not possible to do midship, then aft it is!

Native Floridian 26 Posted April 5, 2012 #12 Share Posted April 5, 2012 We like to be at the very forward or very aft preferably the last cabin with only one neighboring cabin. We had an upgrade from an aft inside to a midship balcony on the second day of our Valor cruise and after an hour of people running back and forth and congregating in the hall, we went back to our old aft cabin where it was nice and quiet. As far as being convenient, both have advantages be it Lido buffet in the back or getting on and off at ports in the front. Can't go wrong with either. cruisecrazy82 Posted April 5, 2012 #13 Share Posted April 5, 2012 Our first balcony was forward on the Verendah deck on the Liberty we were only about 8-10 cabins back from the bridge and we LOVED it! I wouldn't hesitate to book forward again, we didn't feel an excess of movement either which could have been due to calm seas, but in any event we enjoyed the location. Didn't think it was to far from anything, no kids, but we do love the pizza 24/7 as well;)
slk09 Posted April 5, 2012 #14 Share Posted April 5, 2012 We had a forward cabin on the Lido deck on the Dream. Loved the location. Would def stay on that deck again. As far as movement, it wasn't really an issue for us.
wework2play Posted April 5, 2012 Author #15 Share Posted April 5, 2012 Thanks everyone. We will be on upper deck. I checked to see if we could move back but there is nothing left. Oh well. It won't stop us from having a good time, I just know I'm going to be kicking myself when I'm hauling a toddler all over and back and forth :p
Rare Tapi Posted April 5, 2012 #16 Share Posted April 5, 2012 We will be on upper deck. Uh oh, I would change cabins IMMEDIATELY. Right underneath you is the main theater and twice a night, you can actually hear the performance in your cabin, and it is LOUD. When we sailed last time, we had a balcony cabin midship and my mother in law had an inside cabin forward on the Upper deck. She goes to bed early and after the first night, she complained that "her neighbors were playing very loud music until past 11pm". I told her to call me if it happened again the following night (thinking that she was exaggerating). She did call us, so I walked over to see (hear) what was going on. I walked into her cabin and it was beyond loud. It felt as if they had a loudspeaker at full volume jammed against the wall. I could hear the music and cruise director speaking. The bass would make every glass in the cabin shake. The next morning we complained at Guest Relations and they moved her to another cabin available on a higher deck. They also posted a $50 credit to her account for the inconvenience. In addition to the noise, I would avoid a forward cabin because of motion. You DO get much more of the "pitching" motion (up and down) which is what makes people seasick. If seas are calm, you should be OK, but if the seas are choppy, you better pack some dramamine just in case...
SkyMaster Posted April 5, 2012 #17 Share Posted April 5, 2012 If you're one of the first few cabins on "Upper", you'll be O.K. with the noise coming from the Encore Theater, but if you're a bit further back, you will absolutely hear the music from the shows, at least two nights during the week. On the positive side, if you enjoy the "Serenity Deck", it's way forward and it's a short ride up to it from your forward cabin. In any case, you're gonna' have a GREAT cruise aboard "Dream". frednsb Posted April 5, 2012 #18 Share Posted April 5, 2012 I sailed way forward on the Fantasy and an aft cabin on the Inspiration. I thought the forward cabin was fantastic. Yes you are a little way from the excitement, but you are also way away from the noise. The quitest cabin I have ever had!!! I did not like my aft cabin. Sail mostly midship or forward now. Rottweiler Puppy Posted April 5, 2012 #19 Share Posted April 5, 2012 Are there any advantages to being in the front of the ship? Yes. You get more exercise.
jzcruiser57 Posted April 5, 2012 #20 Share Posted April 5, 2012 The ship is only 900 some odd feet long. Unless you have a physical ailment, nothing is that far away.
katiel53 Posted April 5, 2012 #21 Share Posted April 5, 2012 In Feb we were on Dream and had a forward Spa cabin. We felt the movement of the ship far more than we ever did in a midship cabin. We are retired and felt the walking from the front of the ship to the MDR in the rear was a long walk, so muchso, that for DH who uses a walker, we ended up going to the buffet for both breakfast and lunch. For us, never again will we book anything other than midship.
Harris Jeffer Posted April 5, 2012 #22 Share Posted April 5, 2012 THere is actually more movement aft due to the rudder or azipod steering movement. Most Large expensive suites are forward! That says a lot!
ibcnusoon Posted April 5, 2012 #23 Share Posted April 5, 2012 We prefer aft, very close to the buffet, adult pool, pizza and aft dining and an easy walk on the promanade to the casino or mid-ship dining, and the shops. The only good thing about forward is it's a quicker walk back to your cabin from port. But we always just take the elevator to Lido, walk past the buffet to pick up a snack and drink, then head to the aft elevators to our cabin. We love the aft. ump107 Posted April 5, 2012 #24 Share Posted April 5, 2012 I spent almost 4 years at sea in the Coast Guard. If you want the least amount of movement amidships and low is where to go. Cruise ships being the size they are (3.5 times bigger than the largest Cutter I was on), anything amidships is usually good unless you experience large Beam-to seas or high winds off the Beam, then higher cabins are less desirable if you don’t like rocking back and forth. Forward can get rough in real high seas, aft isn’t too bad you'll still feel it. My last cruise on the Miracle I had an amidships cabin we hit some seas that were felt in the Mad Hatters Ball. I heard people complaining about feeling ill. It is a personal thing each person some feel it more than others. If you know or think you get ill Dramamine and ginger ale can be your greatest friends. I think they even make a non-drowsy formula now.
ibcnusoon Posted April 5, 2012 #25 Share Posted April 5, 2012 We hit what some had considered rough seas on our Liberty cruise coming back to Miami from Grand Cayman. We decided to get a massage on forwad deck 11(?) and there were a few employees who worked on the spa deck that were seasick. I talked to one who said that getting the acupuncture helped. albeit for $150. I was kinda shocked that these people worked on a cruise ship, knowing that high up and forward, and are just now finding out they easily get sea sick?
