Time Difference

Sail in a month and am I correct that the ship leaving from Tampa will be one hour ahead of ports of Belize, Cozumel, Grand Cayman and Roatan. These ports are on "central" time while the ship stays on "eastern" time.

We just got off NCL Star...we changed time twice going and twice coming back...I had heard we would stay on "ship time" which would be Tampa time but we adjusted to whatever local time was for our port. We did find out that Carnival doesn't do this and it caused confusion on the tour we were doing. I would check with your cruise line and be clear before you go - especially if you are doing any tours with independent local tour operators.

Just finished the exact same port schedule two weeks ago.

 

Carnival stressed repeatedly throughout the week that everybody needed to stay on ship's time, which was EST. I know that we went through a couple of different time zones during the trip, but the ship and all of its excursions focused on ship's time.

Thanks for confirming that the ship stays on one time as we have private excursions and want to be sure we do not make a big mistake.

Neither Grand Cayman nor Roatan nor Belize observe day light savings time. Grand Cayman is currently on EST and is 1 hour behind EDT time. Both Belize and Honduras (Roatan) are on Central Standard time which is 2 hours behind Eastern daylight time (Tampa). Cozumel does observe day light savings time but at a different start date than in the US. Cozumel is currently on CDT and is 1 hour behind Tampa, same as Grand Cayman.

 

If you're on an NCL ship, they will switch back and forth as they cross time zones and DST observances. Carnival ships stay on Tampa time. DO NOT use your cell phone as a watch or clock on a Carnival ship.

Heya Erin,

 

Got off the glory sunday (April 8th) with the same itenary (cayman, cozumel, belize, roaton). You stay on ships time (Miami time) the entire journey. All times quoted by the ship is ships time. No need to concern yourself with the countries time at all.

 

All the excursion operators were very well aware of arrival and departure times of the ships and kept track of the time throughout.....well the reputable ones at least lol. Which excursions are you doing?
