halos Posted April 8, 2012 #26 Share Posted April 8, 2012 (edited) I agree with this 100%. Avoiding unpacking isn't important enough to me to inconvenience a bunch of other passengers who might have more pressing needs at embarkation. and what would those pressing needs be? To make anyone feel like they are misusing/abusing the butler seems way off base. That aspect doesn't bother me. First, we are (hopefully) talking clean clothes and second, if the butler has never seen bras and granny panties, he ain't gonna get a thril out of mine. exactly...My goodness, I an very happy that I'm not embarassed over my underwear for heavens sake. LOL!! :p I also don't see where unpacking someones bags 1/2 hr tops would be any different than those who order in suite dining on embarkation day or whatever else people request that I may not. Exactly. I seriously don't understand the weird attitude over this. It is specified by NCL that the butler will do this. All those other things on that list don't really interest me as much as the unpacking. Also, as one who worked for tips, I assure you that one who works for tips does not like to sit idle when working means more money. I will also assure you that when I do ask the butler to do anything for me, he will be tipped well...as does every other crew member that makes my cruise wonderful (and they all do:)) and I wager that at the end of the week, the butler will remember the people that treated him well, ($$$) even if it meant he had to unpack their bags.....over the people who asked nothing of him and didn't give him much (or anything). I've read many posts on here from people who claim the consierge did more for them so they tipped them more. Some have said outright that they didn't even utilize the butler, so they didn't tip them. When I worked, days like that were BAD days. No work=no money. They're on that ship to make money, not to have the suite passengers NOT utilize them. It seems odd that nobody finds anything wrong with not utilizing the butler and hence not tipping them, but asking the butler to do something that is actually on the list of items they will take care of makes one almost rude and 'inconsiderate of other passengers'.:rolleyes: Don't get it.... floating on a boat Posted April 8, 2012 #27 Share Posted April 8, 2012 Quick question! this seems a pointless question unless you are "bone idle" or you "get off" on some stranger unpacking your smalls!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

halos Posted April 9, 2012 #34 Share Posted April 9, 2012 why would anyone want someone else to unpack for them??? . Why would someone want to be escorted to their cabin??? They can't find it themselves? Why does someone need to be escorted to the shows?? Why does anyone need someone else to make their reservations???? Why do you need breakfast brought to your cabin??? Go to the dining room and eat there.... Why are there even butlers on the ship at all???
Cmdr Cody Posted April 9, 2012 #35 Share Posted April 9, 2012 I don't want to ask for more than I should expect to receive - I would tip of course! I just hate unpacking lol. We're staying in a suite on the Pride of America for reference. It is only listed as follows for Garden Villa, Deluxe Owners Suites and Owners Suites: (S1, S2, SA, SB catagory suites.) upon Request Butler will un-pack your luggage. For all other suites it is not listed as a perk. If you aren't in that level suite it shouldn't be expected, but you could ask for it.

Good point But what happens if you are in a balcony cabin and your family is staying in an owners suite? Will they unpack for you if you bring your luggage and are visiting their suite for dinner that evening? Just curious ;)
bnorris10 Posted November 8, 2015 #38 Share Posted November 8, 2015 My wife said 'I don't want the Butler seeing me Knickers'. I said 'what about the laundry people?' She said 'they don't know who I am'.....Good answer honey... I am going to pack my underclothing in a separate bag along with anything else I may not want the butler to touch and take full advantage of them unpacking Question though do you have to ask for it or will they offer it
rvsullivan Posted November 8, 2015 #39 Share Posted November 8, 2015 I am going to pack my underclothing in a separate bag along with anything else I may not want the butler to touch and take full advantage of them unpacking Question though do you have to ask for it or will they offer it They will never offer and you may wait quite some time for the service, late first night or next day. It is crazy busy for the Butlers on the first day and unpacking is not a priority. They will also put it where they want it and you can look for it. triptolemus Posted November 8, 2015 #40 Share Posted November 8, 2015 Question though do you have to ask for it or will they offer it Do not ask. Tell. Tell them what your expectations are. Tell them you expect your things unpacked and put away. Tell them when you expect this to be done. Then tip. Don't be an a-hole.
weelv2cruise Posted November 8, 2015 #41 Share Posted November 8, 2015 It would be done automatically if they were Royals or even just visiting some royals, so this question wouldn't even need to be addressed. The maids or footmen would also do any ironing and repack everything with tissue paper at the conclusion of the visit. ;) Since when are we the Royals?
