5 cruise formals - how do I get rid of these?

I have five AWESOME cruise formals and a few of these are in sizes I just can't wear anymore. What can I do to get rid of these and recoup some of the cost? Any ideas?

 

I have countless sundresses, cocktail dresses and formals ranging in size from 8 to 12...

 

Any maybe interested in them or should I place them on Ebay??

Around this time of year in our area (New Jersey) I often see newspaper stories asking people to donate their discarded formal wear to groups that gather them for girls who cannot afford prom dresses. Sorry I don't have a contact, but perhaps you could do a google search for similar programs in your area.

 

If you'd like to make a few dollars, you might try a consignment shop. The ones near us will take clothing in very good shape and give you a share of the price they eventually get. If it's not sold in a certain amount of time, sometimes they'll ask you to pick it up, or donate it to them. I made a few dollars that way on my daughters discarded holiday outfits.

I've sold stuff on eBay...if you're thinking of doing the same, I suggest you take a look and see what similar dresses are selling for. If it's not what you'd want to make for them, then it's not even worth your time.

 

This is a good time of year to do it, though ... with proms coming up.

I agree with donating them. You could help someone who needs a nice dress but can't afford it.

 

You can take a tax credit and feel good about helping someone out.

I'm a high school teacher and we have a "closet" of homecoming and prom dresses for girls who cannot afford to buy one. Consider emailing a local high school to see if they have a similar service for their students.

I agree that donating them for the less fortunate is a fantastic idea.

 

If that doesn't work for you, you could always consign them.

Our community calls it "The Cinderella Project." Try that in your internet search or contact area high schools to see if they have dress donations.
