Caution, Long Beach next weekend

Just a heads up, if you are cruising out of Long Beach April 13th, 14th or 15th. Be aware that the Long Beach Grand Prix is being run through the streets of the city. Approx crowd 100,000. We just got back off the Inspiration and stayed at the Hyatt pre cruise. The race course surrounds that hotel, so no auto traffic at certain times of the day.

Well, Long Beach authorities will likely have contacted the port to find out when the ships leave and or the latest check in can be done. They would not jeopardize the ships sailing by not letting the vehicles with the passengers in to the port area. There could be alternate arrangements made for access to the port as well...

It is good you posted this because it like likely that some will see it and contact their hotel or the city's website to see the road closure times

The port area will, most likely, be UNAFFECTED for those driving there and arriving on buses, cabs, and shuttles, however, those staying at hotels WITHIN the Grand Prix race course could very easily be affected. Traditionally, those that live within the confines of the race course are given money to LEAVE TOWN for the weekend, so as not to create more problems with traffic then there will already be.

The Long Beach Freeway South rolls right into the QUEEN MARY/CARNIVAL parking and embarkation areas and should be able to handle easily (Sunday morning) any increase in traffic.:)

Getting to the port will not be affected (710 freeway). But if you are staying at a hotel in the Long Beach area, alot of the streets will be closed, so getting around will be a challange. Also alot of extra traffic on the 710, so delays could happen. We stayed pre-cruise at the Hyatt, they told us that getting a car in our out of there location would be hard during the weekend as the streets would only open for a short periods of time.

Ah, the time when the local residents flee the area! Getting to the port is not affected, you can get there from town off of ocean blvd. It just becomes a headache since street closures happen off n on from wednesday on.

Anyone staying intown before their cruise, check out the free trial runs, know that the passport bus routes will be all jacked up and there will be alternate stop locations around rainbow harbor and shoreline village to be able to have stops that work with the streetbarriers. Often it's easier to get around town on foot than by car or bus,

Oh how i hated the smell of burning rubber all weekend!
