rugbypopsie Posted April 11, 2012 #1 Share Posted April 11, 2012 I'm excited P & O has announced new cruise itineraries announced to New Guinea. Thanks Deb for sending me the link. http://www.cruiseindustrynews.com/cruise-news/7065-pao-cruises-launches-first-dedicated-papua-new-guinea-cruises.html Sooo excited.... I hope there are some adventurous types out there who want to visit this amazing country right on our doorstep before "civilisation" destroys its unique beauty. Alaska might have to wait... rugbypopsie Posted April 11, 2012 Author #3 Share Posted April 11, 2012 I might have my first P & O cruise and get to meet you in person..Sandy I used to live in Lae in the early 70's and I was excited to go to Rabaul on the Cherry Blossom cruise although its sad to see the devestation the volcano has caused..nothing like it used to be. I've always wanted to go back..Fairstar used to go to the Solomons...Orion goes to New Guinea but too expensive..I would prefer to cruise more often for less money. I will be watching the cruise itineraries closely... Sue

fanoforion Posted April 11, 2012 #5 Share Posted April 11, 2012 Hi, I am so happy to read about the new port in PNG...I will be booking. I have been to the Solomon Islands in 2000....on the old Norwegian Star. country music cruise... not a nice place back then .We almost didn't get there, because the night before, someone was murdered. very uncomfortable walking down the main street, some folks nice, but others stared straight through us. I wrote on my postcards....the best thing about this place is.....the ship leaves at 4pm. things have changed since then and I would go back. I would welcome any new ports...have been to all the Pacific ports that P&O and Princess offer at present. kind regards, Lorraine :):)
Salty Sea Dog Posted April 11, 2012 #6 Share Posted April 11, 2012 This is great news, thanks for the link. I visited Rabual just before the last big eruption would love to go back. Same with Samarai, a very interesting place, historically. Went to Alatoa in Milne Bay quite recently on Silversea. Very pleased these are coming back as possibilities. LouLou28 Posted April 12, 2012 #7 Share Posted April 12, 2012 It's great to see P&O adding some new ports ... will be very interested to see the new itineraries when they are out ... (although I'm thinking they will stick to seven day cruises during school holidays - so it may still be on the wish list for me for a few more years!) I thought it was beautiful - I would have thought it would have returned to that state by now, but obviously it hasn't. :(
