Zebrugge on Ventura

Hello all,

We are docking in Zebrugge as part of our June cruise on Ventura. Does the boat give you complimentary buses into Bruges or do you need to book one of the trips?

We went round the Baltic last year and there was free buses into every city/town centre.

The cheapest trip is around £40 each and to be honest we were keener on just making our own way round the town centre

Thanks

Theoretically, it ought to be possible to find a way out of Zeebrugge port on foot - it is after all a public port. However, the cruise ships don't seem to dock anywhere near the ferry berths, and the twice we've been there, there didn't seem to be any way out of the dock on foot.

Still, the shuttle bus is free. First time we got the train to Brugge from Blankenberg, last time we spent the day in Blankenberg itself - walks, bar, restaurant. A fine time was had....

Never done the train but have done taxi to Brugge which is better than the ships tours as the taxi can get right into the city centre whereas the bus stops about a 15-20 minute walk away. Am doing this again in October when we do the 2 nighter on Ventura and have three spare seats in a minibus if anyone fancies sharing with us based on your costs looks like about half the price of the p& o excursion.

The railway station is about that distance, too. In fact, are the railway station and the bus station at the same location?

We did the Zeebrugge stop with Azura last year and P & O provided shuttles (free) to Blankenberg which is close by. Last year we got the free shuttle to Blankenberg then the train to Bruges which I think took 30 minutes. It's a 15 minute walk into Bruge centre from the station. The trains are regular and it's quite easy to do, there will be loads of passengers from the ship. It was 3 euros 60 for an adult day return in 2011.

we did the shuttle bus, and train to bruges. i remember more like 15 minutes train ride each way. buses will take you into town centre,

from the train station. which we did, then walked back, along the side of a canal. belgian trains are very punctual, they posted a 2 minute delay!:)

Thanks for help so far.

At least it sounds like we have options

Davedex : Can you remember how much taxi was ? And can you get that right from docking point/port ?

Ive done this cruise at least 5 times. The last time we took a taxi because there were 4 of us, £50 each way = £100 return..... we asked the driver to do the return and he agreed a time with us and never showed up it was very stressful;

The other 4 times we did the 'Bruges on your own' p&o tour, which is a coach each way from the ship and 4 hours freetime in Bruges.

There is NO free shuttlecoach from the ship to Bruges.

Some people take the train - free shuttle from ship to Blankenburg, train from there to Bruges, but just remember to allow plenty of time to get back to the ship as the ship will not wait for independent travellers it will wait for the P&O coach trips.

When we used the taxi last time we never had any problems at all,in fact he was early to pick us up and dropped us back to the quayside where he originally got us from. Fantastic service and no stress as all & maximum time in Brugge!
