txstarla Posted April 18, 2012 #26 Share Posted April 18, 2012 Burger King on seawall is best Burger in Town. It is a must while in Galveston. Not even if it was the last burger on earth. Nasty. IMHO

hillbillycruisers Posted April 19, 2012 #28 Share Posted April 19, 2012 We always stay a few extra pre-cruise days in Galveston, and always eat at both Caseys and The Spot. We also really like the Star Drug Store on the Strand..its really good for lunch.:)

IMHO I second that statement!!! Yuck! Well, I have survived 51 years on God's Green Earth without visiting Galveston, TX......and if the local Burger King has the best tasting burger there....then I guess I can survive 51 more. ;) I guess the best burger in Galveston will be from Guy's Burger Joint once a Carnival ship is docked there that has the 2.0 upgrades. lovesublime Posted April 19, 2012 #33 Share Posted April 19, 2012 I live local and everyone suggested great places except Millers. The service is terrible and the food has gone way down hill. I used to love that place now I avoid it! I love The Original Mexican Cafe and The Spot. Also Caseys is good too as it is owned by Guidos and they know there seafood. I have to agree about Miller's. The service is gnarly and unfriendly. The food is not good. It's basically a diner with lousy food and service. I used to work in Galveston and we ate lunch out everyday pretty much. I'll sum it up for those interested. Mario's-Dirty place. They offer a lunch buffet which includes pizza and salad bar along with some pasta and side dishes. Really bad stuff. They don't keep the food stations neat and clean. The pizza sucks. The Cajun Greek-Small hole in the wall. Tried to eat there once. Couldn't get any service. The place smelled so bad, we just got up and left. It literally smelled like rotting fish and shrimp had been left out in the open for weeks. Tortuga's-Gag! Some of the worst Tex Mex I've ever had. Most people in the know only go there to get hammered on margaritas, not for the food. Gaido's-IMO, it just isn't what it used to be. The food is expensive and very underwhelming. Plus, the place could use a good scrubbing and degreasing. I believe Galveston Cruiser's posted list of best places to eat is accurate. Also, be aware that most of the casual places along the strand are mediocre and overpriced. Again, these are places that are mostly watering holes. Mario's on Seawall is good! Mario's on 61st is like you say! Pelican Club at Gaidos is excellant and has separate kitchen and Chef. If you have a club membership at home, call them and they will probably welcome you??
Don Pedro Posted April 19, 2012 #35 Share Posted April 19, 2012 If I had to pick only one place to eat in Galveston it would be Shearn's Restaurant which is located on the ninth floor of the Moody Gardens Hotel. Top quality food and service.
Cruisingzs Posted April 20, 2012 #36 Share Posted April 20, 2012 Sunday Brunch at the Galvez is a family favorite- amazing! But unfortunately, we sail out on Sundays so we only go when we're there for long weekends. Shrimp bisque at Gaido's and crust less pecan pie is a must Shrimp kisses with tiny fried onion strings overlooking the Elissa is another can't miss. I agree on Miller's going down hill. The spot is awesome but crowded.
