garycarla Posted April 27, 2012 #6 Share Posted April 27, 2012 1 - If they have trouble selling most of the pics while people are emotionally into it (onboard), it would be even harder to sell later. 2 - If they posted in online, there would be no way to keep things "private". Anyone could buy anyone else picture.
willysgrandma Posted April 27, 2012 #7 Share Posted April 27, 2012 And they are going to charge you for it anyway - so there would be nothing gained by having them online. 1 - If they have trouble selling most of the pics while people are emotionally into it (onboard), it would be even harder to sell later. 2 - If they posted in online, there would be no way to keep things "private". clean1owner Posted April 27, 2012 #8 Share Posted April 27, 2012 I'm guessing they would cost MORE online after you are back home. They would figure that you are desperate because you didn't buy them on board when you had the chance.

I wish there was a web site to go back and buy pictures. Somehow, I was so busy on my Epic cruise, I forgot to go and buy the pictures. Yea, I suppose I'd have to pay more, however that would be no ones fault but my own:)

Not much to stop anyone from buying them now. I've never seen them check anything when buying a picture that you weren't in. They have no way of knowing who all your friends and travel companions are on board. I've bought pictures for friends/family members and seen others do the same. No questions asked. Not necessarily, the last time my daughter went to Disneyworld they could purchase their photos online but needed a special code to access their photos so the same could be done. I really wouldn't say the prices were "outragious" compared to anywhere I've purchased location photos. Approx. $15 (5x7), approx $20 (8x10). As a matter of fact, I think the one we purchased in Vegas 2 years ago at the Eiffel tower at Paris Casino was $18 (5x7).

che5904 Posted April 27, 2012 #14 Share Posted April 27, 2012 Might not be outrageous compared to other location photos, but they're still steep. My point was even if they sold them online, that is about standard rate for those type of photos and therefore selling them online would not be cheaper. willysgrandma Posted April 27, 2012 #15 Share Posted April 27, 2012 (edited) I was talking to a photo shop person once and asked what they do with the unsold pics - they told me they bag them up and they are sent off ship. He said they have to actually count how many unsold there are when they are taken wherever they are taken and then they are destroyed. He said they sell an average of about 20% of all the pics taken. That is a lot of garbage getting thrown out. I think that is why so many of these lines are going to the new kiosks now that they pics on a screen and you order what you want from the screen. And that they could make available online later on, but I would bet it would cost a fortune to have pictures from every ship and sailing saved online somewhere so people could buy them later. I bet people would actually buy more pictures if they could do it after they got home. There have been a few times I didn't buy one on the ship and kicked myself when I got home. nanabananna Posted April 7, 2014 #16 Share Posted April 7, 2014 Of course I will have my camera with me... how much trouble is it to ask a fellow cruise guest to take a picture of my husband and me? I would do it for someone and not think anything of it. I love pictures and taking pictures...I always try and do the best I can for someone so they will be happy with their picture. In so doing this...I get a memory to keep and make a new friend, too!

On the Breakaway in October I was told the photos are "processed" through a recycler to recover the ink and paper separately. What someone does with essentially muddled ink I have no idea. They are trying to go "green" but they also rely on emotional sales to push their product. The Breakaway was printing photos and putting them on the walls and in folders as just using the Kiosks was not driving people to buy...

My "MO" is to keep an eye out for a couple trying to take photos of each other or a group of "friends" taking turns shooting the group. I walk up to them & simply ask "Would you like for me to take a picture of you together?" They're usually grateful; & then turn around & ask if they can return the favor. Since I'm never in my own photos, I take them up on their offer. Don't be shy.
Cruiser Who Knows Nothing Posted April 8, 2014 #19 Share Posted April 8, 2014 Disney does a photo pass and it's great. You get a card, hand it to the photog, they scan it into the camera and they snap away. When you get home, you long into your private account and purchase away. I love it! I've had 100's of photos in my account and am able to choose some beauties. Sent from my iPad using Forums

Probably not too much actually. These are all digital pictures and storage is cheap these days.
