Cabin Advice

Recommended Posts

Hi,

First time cruiser here, having booked a 14 night med cruise from Southampton on the IOS in July.

I have just received "GREAT NEWS" from our TA that our cabin has been upgraded from a De Luxe Balcony to a Superior Balcony - D2 8534.

Being a newbie, I have no expectations, but I'd be grateful if anyone can let me know if there are any 'issues' with this cabin/location.

For example, it is a forward -ish cabin and one piece of advice I'd received from cruising friends was to choose mid-ship, because you get less movement. Bearing in mind the size of the ship and the relative calm (hopefully) of the route, is this likeley to be a problem?

I see nothing wrong with this cabin. Yes you may feel more movement but you may not. How's that? :p We've sailed in the cabin at the very front of the ship overlooking the bow and we noticed more movement the first night, but then it settled down and I think we did too.

Some people may say mid-ship cabins are more "convenient" because they are located halfway between places you might want to go. Personally, we don't care. It may take 45 extra seconds of walking to get to your cabin, not a big deal.

Since it's your first cruise you will have nothing to compare it to, so I would not worry another oment about it and enjoy your time planning your excursions and feeling the excitement as you prepare for your wonderful Med cruise.

Firstly congrats on the upgrade. As for the cabin, I presume you have been upgraded from either an E1 or E2 so the difference will be you will have a full size sofa, and this accounts for the increase in size of the cabin.

As for location you are near the forward bank of elevators which can be quieter than the main bank further aft IMHO.

We were last in 8550 on Liberty which has the same layout as IOS.

We had no issue with movement, so I wouldn't worry unduly and we were slightly concerned before sailing due to the forward location as we've normally been midship.

I like deck 8 as it's 3 decks down to the Royal Promenade and 3 deck below the pool deck and Windjammer.

Have a great cruise.

Congrats on the upgrade and taking the plunge on your first cruise. A 14 day med is a great way to get your feet wet. Enjoy your trip and you will find once you cruise you are probably going to be hooked. Happy Sailing, I find any cabin is great as long as I can smell the sea air.

Your new cabin is well placed for the forward elevators (which tend to be less busy than the mid-ship ones) and stairs. It is convenient for the theatre, Pyramid Lounge (going down), and the gym, spa and solarium (going up). Going down three decks you will find Sorrentos straight across the promenade, which is really handy for taking Pizza, desserts and Coffee back to your room.

I think you will enjoy the location.
