Sydney CBD Self Catering Hotels or Apartments - any recommendations?

I am looking at taking two cruises out of Sydney in January, and will have a few days in between (mid January). I am considering an apartment over a hotel, as I would like to have the flexibility of preparing my own meals rather than having to eat out/takeaway. (A chance to undo some of the cruise food damage in between :p). I would prefer a central location, but I am open to any interesting or particularly good value for money apartments. Any ideas/suggestions?

Had friends from Europe stay in the Meriton serviced apartments last December. Looked good to me. Cheaper than a hotel. Corner of Kent & Liverpool st. CBD. Near town hall station and the QVBuilding.

I think that is what it was called. We stayed there earlier in the year. It is less than five minutes walk down to Circular Quay and therefore five minutes walk up there from the station

We have stayed at the Meriton and Oaks Maestri - both pretty good and in good locations. As I recall, there is a Woolies near the Meriton. :)

Thanks for the replies ... gives me some ideas for research. The Meriton looks good, and reasonably priced.

I can recommend the Mantra at Chatswood - not CBD, but only a few stops on the North Shore train line and Chatswood has a great shopping centre. I stayed there recently and was very impressed. Not sure how it compares $$ wise with the CBD properties
