Just back from star 4/29 sailing

Recommended Posts

Just back this morning. Another fabulous trip from NCL. Left for the 1st Bermuda sailing on 4/29. Getting on the ship was very quick. We were actually on before noon and cabins were ready within an hour. We had a celebration decoration package to celebrate a Communion Party. It was there when we opened the door and stayed decorated all week. We had mini suite 11079. It was a larger balcony cabin but helped serve the purpose for 4 people in the cabin.

This crew was one of the best we had. My granddaughter is on a gluten free diet and everyone catered to her needs. Restaurant manager made sure all waiting staff was aware. Big applauses here to our waiter Nolee. Ana at the front seating set us up at the same table at Versalles every time we dined there so that section of staff new the issues. They would ask what she wanted 24 hrs in advance to make sure they had everything ready. But if we wanted something else, we just had to wait a little longer. It was no big deal. Every day they made her gluten free cookies and special deserts. I cannot tell you how much they catered to her..... NCL shined here in everyday possible. Thank you also to Sean the Hotel Manager.

Weather in Bermuda is a little cool this time of year although we got lucky on her first day in Bermuda and had a great beach day at Horseshoe Bay. Ocean still to chilly to swim but some still did.

Food: Yes Modernos is open and is fabulous. Great salad bar and the meats are seasoned so well. Skip lunch on that day cause the food is non stop. Excellent. All our other meals were in Versalles and we really had no complaints.

Bar service... a little light by the pool but they have a cart set up in that area to help. Bartenders Mass in the Spinaker and Big Al in the Red Lion was the bomb. Friendly and always took care of us.

The STAR itself is in great shape especially with her age. The crew really has pride in her. Also the STAR'S crew was one of the happiest we have seen. They were always smiling and ready to talk with you. We even seen some members from the Gem that are now working on the STAR.... always great to see Cholette at the front desk.

We rented scooters in Bermuda. 120 for the 3 days but I would use caution if you consider renting. One of our CC members actually broke his wrist and was in the Bermuda Hospital for surgery. He did make it back on the day of leaving Bermuda. Another cruiser that was on the GEM broke his leg and also needed surgery but missed the ship returning to NYC do to his hospital stay.

I will be on later to answer any questions but this cruise was one of the best. Just wanted to drop a quick note to those who asked me to.

:D

We have been to Bermuda a few times so we really only did Horseshoe Bay the first day. The weather was off and on rain the next two days so it was a more relaxing time in Bermuda.

Also wanted to thank Donna for getting the CC meeting together. I did the Slot Pull which was fun. Sorry no jackpot. Everyone chipped in 15 and when all was said and done, everyone received 14 dollars back.

I also wanted to add that the Kids Club was again exceptional. NCL is now also doing a Circus Program with the kids at no charge. My 8 yr old couldn't wait to be there everyday. They taught all the kids some Circus skills like juggling, stilt walking, feather balancing, plate spinning, etc. They have the kids put on a production in Stardust Lounge. Again, another appluase for NCL :D

So glad to hear Big Al is still on the Star, he was the best bartender last October.

I hope he's still there next October when we go back.

Did he happen to mention going on vacation or changing ships?

Glad you had a great cruise on STAR.

However, I think you were mistaken about the cabin number 11079 as it's an inside.

Thanks for your review. Do you know if the kids club was open on the evenings when you were docked In port (without additional fees)?

No fees after 7:00 PM..... during the day $6.00 an hour....but well worth it if needed

Big Al has 5 more weeks on his contract then he is taking off for two months to go home. He is already accepted to have a new contract on the Star so he will be back ;)

Sorry, it was a typo.... 11078. Thanks for the catch ! It was a mini suite but I do have to warn everone on Deck 11, it is not the quietest of decks. If you are anywhere under the pool or buffet the noise starts early. You can hear carts dragging, people walking, etc. It was liveable but it is not as quiet as deck 10 or 9.

Love, love love Sean! I do hope he is still on the Star when I sail in October. Glad you had a nice cruise.

Sean said he will be on the Star for a while. They brought over him and his assistant to turn things around on the Star and get it back to wear she needed to be. Its working ;)

Sounds like you and your family had a great time.

Reading all the positives about the Star, sure makes the waiting time so much longer until

we sail in October. Will be doing the repositioning from New York to New Orleans.

This was our 14th cruise and our first one on Norwegan. Overall it was probably the BEST cruise we have ever taken. The officers were the most friendly and interactive that we have ever experienced. The crew was wonderful. The food was great. We were very nervous reading reviews from some people about the ship being old and showing it and the food not so good. I don't think they were on the same ship that we were. Everyone went out of their way to please us. We ate in Versailles, buffet, Blue Lagoon, Cagney's, LaCucina, and Moderno. Moderno and Cagney were above and beyond great as were the staff in those restaurants. LaCucina was probably our least favorite. Mind you I did not say bad, I said least favorite. We had fun with the staff in the Blue Lagoon and Marjorie and Ana Lynn from Moderno left a beautiful cruise memory with us because they were the absolute best. On the first day we ran into Sean, the Hotel Manager three times and each time he acknowledged us and by the third time he was joking with us. The first day is such a busy day and still he found the time to joke. We ran into him several times after that and he was always friendly and helpful. We were sitting on the pool deck one day and O'Neil Pandit, the Head Bartender came by and asked how we were doing and stayed to talk with us for over 1/2 hour. Where would you ever find that on another ship. This crew just seems so at ease to be able to speak to and spend time with the passengers and show us that they are really happy that we are there and that they are very happy with their jobs. Ken in the casino always checked on me to make sure I was OK and to see if I needed anything being as I was usually alone as DH doesn't go there very often. DH spent a lot more time with Wayoon our room stewart and joked about all the ferocious animals that he made and how he would scare me with them when I returned from the casino. The Yankees were on TV so that is why DH was in the room while I was in the casino. DH and I both walk with canes and Wayoon tried to do everything he could to make us as comfortable as possible in our balcony stateroom. The bathroom has a good lay out but the toilet area is tight. We were so impressed with this entire cruise that we left our first ever deposit for a future cruise. We can't wait to get back on any NCL ship. This was also our first time in Bermuda. We had hired a driver via e-mail. We had read about him on cruise critic. His name is Duke Soares and he was wonderful. He was born in Bermuda and is a history buff. He took us out to St. George's, Hamilton and all around the island. We went to several beaches along the way and told us many, many stories about the island. We would highly recommend him. We liked Bermuda a lot but loved the Star and it's officers and crew!
