paradise sailor Posted May 7, 2012 #27 Share Posted May 7, 2012 We have been to Bermuda a few times so we really only did Horseshoe Bay the first day. The weather was off and on rain the next two days so it was a more relaxing time in Bermuda. Also wanted to thank Donna for getting the CC meeting together. I did the Slot Pull which was fun. Sorry no jackpot. Everyone chipped in 15 and when all was said and done, everyone received 14 dollars back. I also wanted to add that the Kids Club was again exceptional. NCL is now also doing a Circus Program with the kids at no charge. My 8 yr old couldn't wait to be there everyday. They taught all the kids some Circus skills like juggling, stilt walking, feather balancing, plate spinning, etc. They have the kids put on a production in Stardust Lounge. Again, another appluase for NCL :D we did the exzct same thing on our 4-15 Repo cruise....got 14 back from 15 ...did you use a wheel of fortune machine...I have an idea for our next one that dosn't include a wheel of fortune.... JOANN226 Posted May 7, 2012 #28 Share Posted May 7, 2012 Sean said he will be on the Star for a while. They brought over him and his assistant to turn things around on the Star and get it back to wear she needed to be. Its working ;) Thanks for the review, can't wait to be on the ship 35 days to go and as you can tell counting. It is always great to have a good time and good memories. OceanDreaming2 Posted May 7, 2012 #29 Share Posted May 7, 2012 Sounds like you and your family had a great time. Reading all the positives about the Star, sure makes the waiting time so much longer until we sail in October. Will be doing the repositioning from New York to New Orleans. Hello canadiancruiser13! Be sure you sign up for the rollcall - the link is in my signature. This is going to be a fantastic cruise!
KevinsCruising Posted May 7, 2012 Author #30 Share Posted May 7, 2012 This was our 14th cruise and our first one on Norwegan. Overall it was probably the BEST cruise we have ever taken. The officers were the most friendly and interactive that we have ever experienced. The crew was wonderful. The food was great. We were very nervous reading reviews from some people about the ship being old and showing it and the food not so good. I don't think they were on the same ship that we were. Everyone went out of their way to please us. We ate in Versailles, buffet, Blue Lagoon, Cagney's, LaCucina, and Moderno. Moderno and Cagney were above and beyond great as were the staff in those restaurants. LaCucina was probably our least favorite. Mind you I did not say bad, I said least favorite. We had fun with the staff in the Blue Lagoon and Marjorie and Ana Lynn from Moderno left a beautiful cruise memory with us because they were the absolute best. On the first day we ran into Sean, the Hotel Manager three times and each time he acknowledged us and by the third time he was joking with us. The first day is such a busy day and still he found the time to joke. We ran into him several times after that and he was always friendly and helpful. We were sitting on the pool deck one day and O'Neil Pandit, the Head Bartender came by and asked how we were doing and stayed to talk with us for over 1/2 hour. Where would you ever find that on another ship. This crew just seems so at ease to be able to speak to and spend time with the passengers and show us that they are really happy that we are there and that they are very happy with their jobs. Ken in the casino always checked on me to make sure I was OK and to see if I needed anything being as I was usually alone as DH doesn't go there very often. DH spent a lot more time with Wayoon our room stewart and joked about all the ferocious animals that he made and how he would scare me with them when I returned from the casino. The Yankees were on TV so that is why DH was in the room while I was in the casino. DH and I both walk with canes and Wayoon tried to do everything he could to make us as comfortable as possible in our balcony stateroom. The bathroom has a good lay out but the toilet area is tight. We were so impressed with this entire cruise that we left our first ever deposit for a future cruise. We can't wait to get back on any NCL ship. This was also our first time in Bermuda. We had hired a driver via e-mail. We had read about him on cruise critic. His name is Duke Soares and he was wonderful. He was born in Bermuda and is a history buff. He took us out to St. George's, Hamilton and all around the island. We went to several beaches along the way and told us many, many stories about the island. We would highly recommend him. We liked Bermuda a lot but loved the Star and it's officers and crew! I have to agree about O'Neil Pandit. He would always come over to us and be as friendly to us as if he were family. Every time he passed us, he would talk to us by name. Because of people like O'Neil is the reason we are NCL return cruisers ! (Also Cholette, Amy, Big Al, Mase, etc )

sassyredhat Posted May 7, 2012 #32 Share Posted May 7, 2012 Thanks for all the info. Star is coming back the the west coast at the end of 2013. We are booked for our first NCL in 2014. So far there are 12 of us booked. We booked all the aft penthouses on deck 10 and some insides. I know it's a long way off, but our extended family is already going nuts over this. I was a bit wary, being a Holland America kind of gal, but NCL has been getting some good reviews. Thanks again. Pat
alwalaska Posted May 7, 2012 #33 Share Posted May 7, 2012 Do you have dailies? We are on star 5/13. Thanks! I just noticed that you are on our cruise and I wanted to invite you to come join our roll call here. We all are getting super excited. :D

You will be blown away by the service and perks. Our next cruise is booked on Zuiderdam for April, but it is being cancelled if favor of an NCL repo cruise. We just returned from 12 days on the Star and it was the best cruise we have been on including all our HAL cruises.

canadiancruiser13 Posted May 8, 2012 #37 Share Posted May 8, 2012 I did HAL once. Just not my cup of tea. I will stick with NCL also :D We did HAL as well back in 2007, would have to agree with you, it will be a very - very long time before we would do another HAL cruise. In some cases the ship can move quicker than those on board. lol

Lady_Xero Posted May 8, 2012 #39 Share Posted May 8, 2012 I will be leaving out of NYC on the Star on May 13th. In your opinion, where was the best place to be at Sail-away? I wanted to get a nice view of the Statue of Liberty. I've got an inside room so it won't be from my balcony :( I've been stalking the reviews section for people who returned on the Star from your sailing. It didn't even occur to me to check the boards. Thanks for your timely review. Now I'm a little nervous since my cabin is on the 11th floor, close to where yours was. One of my favorite things about cruising is taking naps whenever. Hope I can still accomplish that :-/ Also what kind of restaurant is Moderno? TIA!

rino002 Posted May 8, 2012 #41 Share Posted May 8, 2012 you have to check Moderno out! I would eat there every night! Also if you like lobster, it was on the first night for us in main dinning rooms, so take a peak at the menu when ya get on. The crew and ship was very nice! Probably one of my better NCL trips. Only thing about the Star i didn't like was its a little confusing to navigate thru at first. With the newer ships i been on (dawn, gem, jewel) you could walk around in "loops" on most of the floors, with the Star you get "dead end" area but you will figure it out after your 3 day or so LOL
sassyredhat Posted May 8, 2012 #42 Share Posted May 8, 2012 You guys are funny !! :p HAL is 'quiet'. We just got back from a Princess cruise. Our 40 yr olds and 50 yr olds were bored. Looking forward to it. Pat
Travelnuts Wife Posted May 8, 2012 #43 Share Posted May 8, 2012 The pool deck is a good place to take pictures from. The Bier Garden will probably be very crowded so I wouldn't go there. Moderno is a Brazilian Restaurant. The salad bar consists of about 40 items. The bring you about 10 different meats to try, chicken, pork, beef, lamb, sausage. They bring 4 sides dishes of garlic mashed potatoes, buttered rice, black beans and fried bananas to eat while you try the different meats. They give you a card red on one side to say no more food right now and green for bring it on. You can try it all or nothing, it is up to you. It was a wonderful experience and hopefully Marjorie will be your hostess and AnaLynn your waitress as they were wonderful.

Star and Dawn are exact sister ships. Please correct me if I'm wrong. You are mostly correct. For the most part they are identical. Deck 7 is walkable inside on the starboard side only. Ginza blocks the port side. Only took one time to figure that out. Deck 6 is the same as the other ships - the kitchen blocks going from the aft area to midship or forward. The big difference between the Star and the Dawn is the Star only has 4 new suites with balconies on Deck 12 while on the Dawn there are 10 new suites with much bigger balconies.:)
