Tom_n_Sara Posted May 16, 2012 #1 Share Posted May 16, 2012 I am diamond on Royal but we went on Carnival Freedom to the Southern carib for 8 days. Before we left, I asked for some comparisons and got the ordinary, regular ones. As we cruised, I think the 2 can't really be compared because there is a difference in cruise philosophy between the 2. Royal used to talk about "Mass with class" while Carnival talks about "Fun for all and all for fun". We really enjoyed our Carnival cruise (except for the Norovirus experience) because it was much more laid back and oriented towards fun like the dancing waiters in the MDR. But that doesn't take anything away from wanting to go back on RCI. So maybe, there is such a difference in what each cruise line is trying to do with their ships, I don't think any really comparison can be made. Make any sense? pspercy Posted May 16, 2012 #2 Share Posted May 16, 2012 How do they compare when something goes wrong ? Ship breakdown ? Hurricane induced early sailing ? I've seen less than complimentary threads about RCI & =X= but haven't followed CCL in this regard.

We cruise most of the major cruise lines and like all of them but one..(starts with an N)..lol. We find pluses with them all

Just remembered the fire on a Carnival ship last(?) year off California, how were the passengers treated etc ?

You know what - this makes absolute sense to me. I have sailed both Carnival and Disney - two very different lines but I like them for different reasons and categorize them differently. Disney = "Magic"; where else can you run into Goofy walking to the pool? Or have every Disney movie on demand in your stateroom? It's about the Disney touches and extras. Carnival = "Fun"; There's always something going on - trivia, ice carving, kareoke, superstar kareoke, comedy club, casino....It's about seeing your waiter dance and your bar server remember your name and approach you with a big smile. One day, I'd like to add my one word definitions for RCCL and Celebrity but I'll need to sail them first :D.
