Car Rental Vs. Private Tour

Recommended Posts

I have been researching port excursions for our upcoming cruise on the Maasdam the first week in July. I thought we would rent a car in some ports and book tours in others, using recommendations I have found on this board. We would have three couples to share expenses.

Of these three ports--Halifax, Sydney, and Charlottestown PEI--which would be the easiest to do on our own with a car rental? Which would you most recommend doing a private tour?

Bar Harbor and Quebec seem to be ports not to rent a car. Would you agree?

I opted to rent a car in the three ports that you mentioned and opted to do a tour in Bar Harbor and to explore by foot in Quebec. Since there are three in my party, the rental car option at about $50 was the most affordable option. There are many good driving routes that other CCers have posted that I'm going to try. Take a look at the various threads and you'll see lots of driving directions.

I would rent a car in Sydney and Charlottetown as you want to get out of town.

For Halifax, you can stay downtown and walk, or you can rent a car to go to Peggy's Cove. There is lots to do in Halifax.

I agree to walk around in Quebec City.
