Depends on what you're looking for:

  • Convenient place to spend the night close to the airport: Best Western San Juan Airport (right AT the airport terminal. Walk to hotel)
  • Closest to the cruise terminal: Sheraton Old San Juan
  • Close to sightseeing in Old San Juan AND beaches: Any hotel in the Condado area
  • Close to beaches by the airport: Any hotel along the Isla Verde area
  • In the heart of Old San Juan: In addition to the Sheraton, check out Hotel El Convento, Hotel Milano, and HJ Plaza de Armas
  • Best accomodations in San Juan: Ritz Carlton Isla Verde, El San Juan Hotel and Casino
  • Best hotel in the island: El Conquistador (about 45 mins east of San Juan)

Thank you so much! We want to do some sight seeing before boarding the ship! This is great!

A lot of people use priceline to get a pre cruise hotel in San Juan. If you look at the port of call board under San Juan and do a little research, you will find basically step by step instructions of how people did it and the hotels they mostly get it. We used Priceline last March (2011) and stayed at the Marriott Stellaris on the beach, it was beautiful and an easy cab ride into Old San Juan, spend a few minutes checking it out, it may save you some money if you don't exactly care where you stay.

DH and I personally stayed at the Sheraton OSJ. It was close to some casual dining spots and close enough to walk to the Old Town. And it was fun getting up on sailing day and seeing our ship out the window. And DH's casino winnings covered over half of the cost of the stay!
