Weil123 Posted May 3, 2005 #1 Share Posted May 3, 2005 Hi, me and my dad are going to Alaska in late june/early july and in Juneau we signed up for this excursion. We get to hike on the Mendenhall glacier for 4 hours with a small group and a guide. I was just wondering if anyone had any opinions on that excursion??? jrask Posted May 3, 2005 #2 Share Posted May 3, 2005 I assume you're talking about the Extended Glacier Trek (aka X-Trek), which is provided by the cruise companies via Northstar Trekking. If so, we did their 2-hour version and it was our best excursion. You get to explore the ice formations ... waterfalls and streams on the surface, and look down a moulin (big hole drilled by melt water with deep electric blue color). The 4 hour includes an ice-wall climb. Its a blast and you get amazing pictures. We could easily have gone for the extra 2 hours, but we wanted to split our time with other excursion options. Definitely no regrets on this one.
