I was just wondering if anyone has had a teenager or is a teenager and if you have had a problem meeting people due to the language differences. thanks
ViD Posted May 5, 2005 #2 Share Posted May 5, 2005 Either way, just be open minded and friendly. Try to adapt to local customs - read up on them. Europeans are more formal, but italians much less so. Greetings are very important. People make eye contact when saying hello or good day. They smile at you while doing this. Do the same on your own initiative and you will be fine. Dont be afraid to start a conversation, just excuse your self for not knowing the language - German, Italian, French or what have you. Of course if there are Brits on the ship... no worries! Also note that, if you are American you may know a little Spanish and that will help with talking to Italians. I've found Italians are more willing to talk to you in Spanish than any other foreign language. It really helps to know more than one language when in Europe. Most people that I know, can speak at least three!!! I'm fluent in two, but with German... Im still in the beginning stages - but it has helped.
