Monterey car rental

This will be a new port stop for us, but we have been here by land, so would like to visit Carmel and 17 Mile Drive. Is there a close and resaonable car rental near ship tendered dock? Or maybe a company that will bring the car to us?

I live in Carmel and don't know of a car rental company anywhere near the wharf. There used to be one fairly close, but it closed down. I wonder if you could somehow arange for them to bring you a car to a nearby hotel, though. The closest large hotel to the wharf would be Portola Hotel (formerly Portola Plaza). The airport (where most rental car agencies are) is pretty far away, probably about $25 in cab fare?).
