snorkeling beach

Seeing you're not having much luck on this thread finding a good beach close to port, I have a different beach recomendation. If you don't mind taking a 25 minute cab ride, we went to Pineapple Beach, and had a blast. I took my own gear, and asked the locals the best beach for snorkeling, and they all recommended this one. You can rent a chair and umbrella and walk on down to the water with you gear, swim out a little and you'll find a plenty of reefs with a "channel" that runs through them, almost like a little maze. If you get lost or disoriented, you can stand up on most parts of the reef and figure out where you are. When you get bored with that, there are a couple places to eat right on the beach, as well as jet-ski and other rentals.

Yes, the restaurant we ate at served a variety of beers, and there was a little "stand" that sold postcards, trinkets and beer just a few yards up the hill from the beach too. A couple hundred yards south on the beach was a bigger restaurant (outdoor w/covered top similar to the one we ate at) which served beer and mixed drinks too. You won't find this beack lacking much of anything you'd want.

We all pitched in $20/each x 8 people = $160US for an entire taxi for the day. That took us unlimited to anywhere we wanted to go. Probably cheaper if you just want to go straight to the beach. There are plenty of taxi's sitting at the beach area to return you to the ship when you're ready, and most taxi's will be glad to pick you up at a specified time. They are pretty shrewd negotiators, so be ready to price shop... We got tired of negotiating with this one cabby that got nasty with us, so we just moved on to someone else that was happy to accept our price.:D

Best of luck, and feel free to ask any other questions!
