bluenoser2 Posted June 1, 2012 #1 Share Posted June 1, 2012 We're thinking of using La Quinta Airport East as our 2 night pre-cruise stop, since it fits better in our budget and we like the airport and POM shuttle. We're wondering if we can avoid renting a car, and whether there is public transit within walking distance. Totally unfamiliar with the area so any help/advice would be appreciated. We'd like to do an Everglades tour our full day in the area, and wonder if we can get to a pick-up point from that location with minimal difficulty. miamiyogi Posted June 1, 2012 #2 Share Posted June 1, 2012 The short answer is no. You will probably need a car to do the Everglades. The only public transport options are bus. The street in front is served by the 37 and 42 bus routes. I don't recall a stop near the hotel and if there is a stop to pick up Southbound..... its a very busy street not designed for pedestrian traffic. There isn't anything worthwhile within walking distance, which is why this hotel operates a "free" shuttle. Its the only way to entice budget minded cruisers to stay there. JohninDC Posted June 1, 2012 #3 Share Posted June 1, 2012 You could use the hotel shuttle to get back to the MIA airport and then catch the airport flyer bus from there to Miami Beach for only $2.35 each. Not many dining options near the hotel - a Bennigans with horrible reviews and the restaurant inside the Embassy Suites (where dinner will cost more than your LQ East room!). Not where I would choose to spend two days. Good luck! :)
