Josy1953 Posted June 3, 2012 #51 Share Posted June 3, 2012 We just got off the Grand yesterday after a great 2 weeks in the Med. We were in a Caribe balcony and I can say that it is a real pain to have such a tiny table on the balcony, it was not big enough to have any food on and on the only occasion that we ordered coffee from room service even the guy who delivered it commented that it was too small because the tray just about fitted on it. There is no matting on the balcony floor and the floor always appeared dirty even after the room steward had just cleaned it. The new chairs were OK but would have been better if we had had something to put our feet up on, though we believe that footstools will be coming soon. We did have to stay out of room for a complete day because they were replacing the balcony dividers, this seems to be a work in progress because we noticed the same activity in several rooms during the cruise. I am less than impressed with the closure of the MDR on port days because I don't like buffets and on a couple of occasions I noticed people pick up rolls and cookies with their fingers and then put them down again. Apart from these few niggles (by no means major problems) everything was great, the food was the best that we have had on a Princess ship and after last years food catastrophies on the Crown we were ecstatic about the Grand food. There was a wonderful string quartet onboard, we went to 2 shows that they did and stood in the atrium to listen to them before dinner on several days. We found that the One5 was the place to go for a quiet drink after dinner, there was rarely more than 6 or 7 people in there and Julia the bar steward in there was fantastic. Generally all of the staff seemed to be very cheerful and helpful.

caribill Posted June 3, 2012 #53 Share Posted June 3, 2012 Now not all onboard are happy some comments from fellow passengers,No one told me that kids were allowed on this ship, Its not the same as P&O There is no tea pot in my cabin Then the one I liked “ I do not like Princess but the price the ports and the dates were right and the food is good”. Some folks are never happy. Love it.
caribill Posted June 3, 2012 #54 Share Posted June 3, 2012 However, plans then changed again as the strike was called off and the ship could take its original itineray. http://www.cruisecritic.com/news/news.cfm?ID=4856
Shogun Posted June 4, 2012 Author #55 Share Posted June 4, 2012 Good morning from the Grand Princess, we are at sea today, weather cloudy over cast good swell on the sea, so you can feel the movement of the ship, which I like, after all I am on a ship and its nice of mother nature to remind me of that fact, and that she is in charage. Well been around most parts of the ship still can not find those worn carpets and broken furniture others have in the past talked about, in fact the old girl looks excellent for her age, yes there are a few scraps and marks but nothing to tell she has been at sea for over a decade. The One thing Princess does need to do is redo the décor in the elevators, these are looking very old with the very dark wood an dim lights, no need to go the level of the one five club with its modern neon lights etc but a little more modern and a bit brighter please. Dinner last night was interesting maître d stopped by to say hello to me, so did one of the chefs with her big hat, during the day the Captain spotted me and my DW and started to chat, using our names nice touch, Sabatinis breakfast has been as good as any other ship in the fleet, by second morning the staff knew our names, the type of coffee we liked and the fruit juice we prefer, again very good service. Throughout the ship a number of crew members have welcomed me by name, so looks like my wanted poster has been posted on the ship. The casino continues to be nasty regardless of how much DW wins it is matched by losses. I now have a small list of the items that did not make the suite case, mainly clothes no sweat shirts no jackets so will be modelling the latest in Princess logo gear as we go ashore tomorrow. Formal night to night so all the normal stuff, will be taking place. The jubilee events have been shown in the Vista on the big screen place was packed out, being repeated on MUTS but might be quite out there due to weather. Kids enjoying the covered pool. CC meet this morning so we wait to see who attends. So bye all for now Yours Shogun

Dorset Cruiser Posted June 4, 2012 #66 Share Posted June 4, 2012 If I was someone who had spent a small fortune on a suite, I think I would be more than a little ticked off if someone who had only paid for an inside cabin was sitting next to me at breakfast in Sabatinis, no matter whom they knew :(
