Casinos at Sea Upgrade Question

Recommended Posts

To all you CAS veterans out there who book with the Casinos Department, I have a question:

I booked a complimentary Inside stateroom for the Norwegian Jade, departing in July (that is what I was qualified for). I took note of the rate at which that room was selling for at the time of my booking. I now notice that Oceanview staterooms are going for that price or less.

My question is, if I wanted to upgrade to an Oceanview, would it be a free upgrade since the room's value is what I booked to begin with or would I pay the difference of what the Oceanview costs vs. the Inside costs today? Or is this upgrade not even allowed because I only qualified for a complimentary inside stateroom?

Thanks for any and all help!

I believe you will have to check this with CAS. They are your "travel agent" for this cruise and I'm not sure NCL can help you. With the price reduction a normal booking can usually be changed at little or no charge. This would be up to CAS since they are paying NCL for the room. Can't hurt to ask. Good luck!

When we got the complimentary invitation I called and requested an upgrade to a Courtyard Villa which we received with no problem but were charged the difference of inside room and Courtyard Villa. Then when credited for cruise only got points for inside room even tho we had paid for Villa. When I called to question that was told you were only entitled to inside room and that is that.. You can upgrade but you will pay the difference. Next time I will call Casino to get price of Villa and I bet it would be cheaper than upgrading from inside "free" room.

You can upgrade yourself with CAS. Our last cruise

We were offered a mini suite & paid the difference to

Upgrade to a PH. A few weeks later the prices went

Down we called & upgraded to the courtyard PH. We only

Paid the difference of the lower rate. My experience you

may have to call more than once to get the price you

want to pay. We also only got latitudes credit for a mini suite ,

but called the latitudes dept. and they did credit us

for the PH courtyard. You should get credit for what you

Paid for, I found the lattitudes dept. very helpful.

The paperwork that came with your comp cruise certificate should state right in it if upgrades are available and most are for a cost.

If the current price of an Oceanview cabin was reduced more than likely so was the Inside cabin you are currently booked in. So even if both cabin category base prices went down, there is still a price difference between the two and that current difference is probably what you should expect to pay if you want to upgrade.

I recently received a balcony comp from Foxwoods casino and wanted to upgrade to an MA minisuite. The price difference to upgrade was $400/pp. Since I was a Latitude member I was able to get the member discount which reduced the upgrade price to $200/pp. In moving up categories what also went up in price was the government taxes, fees, and insurance but all in all still a very good deal.

Actually, the price of an OV guarantee isnow $10/pp less than the current price of my Inside. Now the question begs, do I give up my cabin that I picked for the location (9th Fl, midship) and risk getting an OV that could be anywhere? Natural light or no natural light, that is the question...

If you're looking at the price of a guarantee cabin, you're looking at the wrong price. You'll have to pay whatever the normal difference is between the price of the inside and the price of the Oceanview. Use the NCl website as a guide, and talk to CAS.

Just an update for those who are curious.

I gave CAS a call, the rates they go off of are the rates you paid at the time of booking. Even though the current inside price is $10/pp cheaper than an OV, I would still pay the original $150/pp difference it originally was. Maybe it has to do with the cabins CAS "purchased" from NCL at the start. It was worth checking out, no complaints here!

Thanks for your help!

I ran into a similar situation a couple of years ago. I waited until just a couple of months prior to sailing to book (hoping to get a good deal) and wanted to use my Harrah's TR discount of 20%. The rate they would have used to base the discount on was alot more than the current rate it would have cost more.

Hi! We usuaully book thru either Harrahs or CAS (recently, just CAS). And I would urge you to keep calling CAS back as it gets closer to your cruise. We always upgrade - they last 3 cruises to a penthouse or higher. And if the cruise isnt full, and it seems to me particularly when it isnt a "gambler heavy" cruise (i.e, a tournament cruise, a cruise with a whole Harrahs or Foxwoods contigent of folks etc) the quoted prices for upgrades change as time goes on. We are leaving on the Pearl on Sunday to Alaska. I was comped for a balcony and booked more than 9 months ago. Then the prices for a mini suite dropped, but the balcony prices increased. I called CAS 3 times, and got 3 different prices to upgrade. The last was acceptable and we upgraded. Then, about 6 weeks or so ago, every penthouse on the ship was still open, so I called for prices to upgrade. Again, the first call resulted in an outrageous quote. I waited a few days and called again, and this time got a qoute that was almost 900. less than the qoute I had gotten only a few days earlier. So we upgraded to penthouse. Those folks have alot of discretion. Dont give up after your first call.
