Not renting a car now, how easy to hire a taxi?

Hubby's second guessing renting a car while in GC since the van that is available is a right handed drive plus driving on the wrong side of the road. So now he wants to look into hiring a taxi.

We're not into all the scuba, snorkeling, beaches, etc. We'd like to just ride around, check out the island and definately go to Hell (I know it's cheezy, but we still want to stop by for some photos and a postcard or two)

When you hire a taxi, do they just drive you to one place and you then grab another one to get you back to the ship or can you get a taxi to drive you around for an hour or two?

Please let me know how they work and how much they would charge.
