Just Back Carnival Dream

Here's a quick summary of the main points from our Dream cruise June 2-June 9 Eastern itinerary:

Family of four, two cove balcony adjoining cabin #'s 2340, 2342.

Overnight at the Raddison Resort at the Port, park and cruise, worked great again, 3rd visit. Second shuttle to the ship Saturday morning.

VIP boarding, very smooth. At the buffet by 11:15, waiting on rooms at 1:30 PM. Checked on table for four at Crimson Dining Room (travel agent requested), was confirmed.

Rooms ready on time, and settled in before safety briefing. Cabins correctly set up as requested- King in our room, 2 twins in the kids room.

Very nice week aboard the Dream. Used main dining for dinner 5 nights, and casual for two. Lobster and Shrimp still on the menu. Chocolate Melting cake available most nights-- a big hit. Service OK but not spectacular.

Mainly went to the clubs at night, kind of over the shows at this point. Blackjack is a great cover band with an outstanding lead guitar/steel guitar/fiddle player. Since kids are 18 and above, went to the later Punchliner shows ("R" rated). Good job by that staff and headliners.

Great bar waiters as usual. Eugene was on his last Dream cruise for awhile. He was leaving Saturday for vacation, then to Alaska on the Spirit, with Australia coming up in the Fall.

Cove Balcony cabins were nice. No odors around here, or in our hallways. We we're on the even number side. Enjoyed some of the new towel creations that hang from the curtains (seagull) and sit on the flatscreen (gorilla).

Very few people aware of the Song Lounge, it's kind of tucked away in the corner. One night we had basically a private concert for 2 sets back there.

Got off at each port for just a short while-- we mainly enjoy our time on the ship and we've been to the ports many times over the years. At St. Thomas we did take a taxi to Sapphire Beach, which was a pleasant enough beach, but the taxi ride was long, the air didn't work, and we we're happy to get back to the ship later on.

We did get the VIP tray of Chocolate delivered to the cabin one night, and a Carnival Satchel on another night, and a Platinum Dream pin. Also the VIP disembarkation was nice on Saturday-- we we're back on the road about 8:15 AM.

That's about it-- a very relaxing week and a great time had by all. What if life is just a dream?

Will be on the Dream in Jan. Any good eating places other than the MDR?

Thanks for the review.

Hi, we liked the selections in the Gathering at lunch-- they have just about every kind of food one could imagine. I personally went to the Mongolian Wok, and that was good (at breakfast the Mongolian Wok is the Omelet station--they do a great job on the omelets!), the grill, which is pretty average, and the Deli, where I ended up every day after.

In the evening, the selections at the Gathering are more limited, and roughly mirror the selections in the main dining room. As far as the main dining room, you can look up todays menu on your cabin TV, so you can always decide day by day. That was a helpful feature.

My son liked the 24 hour pizzaria. You always get it fresh out of the oven.

I always started the day with coffee & pastries delivered to the room. Mainly because I'm an early riser, and the rest of the family tended to sleep a little later.

Thanks for your reply, and good luck. You will enjoy the Dream. She is going to drydock this Fall and will have some new features added before your cruise (however, she still looks brand new right now).

We were on the June 2nd cruise with you, and I concur with everything you noted. We too had a GREAT time aboard, and enjoyed all the wonderful things to do aboard "Dream". This was our 3rd "Dream" cruise, and we have liked each, and every one of 'em.

Did you happen to notice if they had any Thriller line dance on the cruise? We heard about it and have been practicing but we are not sure if they are doing it or not. Thanks for any info!!

Hey JimBob......we usually stay at the Radisson too, but have not done so since they started allowing "non-hotel" guests to park.

Before that we were able to book our shuttle time when we booked our room, but this time they told us we would have to wait until we checked-in.

Did you find that to be the case and was it a problem because we won't be arriving until probably 3:00pm or so on check-in day.

Thanks!!

Sailed the dream Feb 2011... and loved it. Btw...fish and chips is upstairs in Lido. Never ate there but found it one day. If you keep going thru Lido/food areas to the right to back of ship there is another bar out there and a smaller pool. Never was really anyone there since not many people went that far. Late night burgers and dogs are thru left side to the back of ship also. Steakhouse is great!! Ate there twice. Its confusing to get there tho. Hard to explain. So get good help. We had room service a lot. And its good. Can order off the TV and doesn't take long. And when tipping can still leave a tip when you sign or give them cash. We got most our drinks at the casino bar since was close to our room. And had less wait. The bartenders there were good. Again..this was in Feb 2011 and some things may have changed since then. But you will love the dream. Heck being on amy boat is good. :D happy sailings/vacation

Thanks for the review - we will be sailing on the Dream in September. Could you tell me why you chose the Crimson dining room? Thanks

Hi,

we're assigned I think by cabin location. First time on the Dream, so I wouldn't know if their is any difference in the dining rooms. We had a very short walk to the forward stairway to the Atrium. The Crimson Dining Room is just forward of the Atrium Bar.

No, I called about 2 months prior and made the shuttle reservation; I haven't heard about the new policy. That could be a game changer.

Jimbob, You mentioned the Radisson at the Port worked great again, can you elaborate and would you recommend the Radisson? Some recent reviews aren't too great and I know you can't believe everything you read. Just trying to decide which hotel to book precruise.

Thankyou
