Rare LittleMissMagic Posted June 14, 2012 Author #37 Share Posted June 14, 2012 We took a large group boarding photo with our "extended family," which we ended up buying. Once we boarded the ship, the other graduates and their families (except for one family which had already taken off) were there waiting for us, so we took this opportunity to get group photos. The graduates - DSCN0028 by vshingl, on Flickr DSCN0030 by vshingl, on Flickr And then a friendly ship emplyee came by and told us it was his job to take pictures, so we should all get in the photo. Rare LittleMissMagic Posted June 14, 2012 Author #38 Share Posted June 14, 2012 We then headed to the feeding frenzy at the Windjammer. We were a little turned-around once we got on the ship, so we wandered around for a little to get our bearings and locate the Windjammer. It was confusing because the glass elevators at the aft of the ship only went to deck 7. So once we waited and jammed ourselves into an elevator, we could only go up a few floors. But, we eventually found the pool deck, which lead us to the buffet! It was already rather crowded, despite our early arrival. This was the only time I ate lunch in the Windjammer the entire trip. I found the selections a little disappointing. The food that looked good had long lines, and I have little patience waiting for food (which is why I have practically given up on college dining halls). I settled on a hot dog, but found the bun cold and hard, so I just ate the dog. The girls went to go find their room.... Cruise Day 1: Finding the Room DSCN0032 by vshingl, on Flickr And I joined Dad and Chip for cocktails. Mother had gone to the spa for a pedicure. We chatted for a little while, then decided to go check out our room...
Rare LittleMissMagic Posted June 14, 2012 Author #39 Share Posted June 14, 2012 It was very convenient to the Windjammer, just one flight down... DSC_5805 by vshingl, on Flickr I was surprised to see that our room had a name. DSC_5804 by vshingl, on Flickr It made it very easy to identify. Hello, loud sofa! Rare LittleMissMagic Posted June 14, 2012 Author #40 Share Posted June 14, 2012 What is that? A full-size bathtub? And floorspace in the bathroom??? I can't believe it! DSC_5810 by vshingl, on Flickr I like big closets. As for the robes, I'd be better off with child-size. DSC_5811 by vshingl, on Flickr Storage! Storage! I love storage!!! Rare LittleMissMagic Posted June 14, 2012 Author #45 Share Posted June 14, 2012 Dad fell on the bed and took a nap, and shortly after, Mom found the room. She was impressed by the size. I mean, it's not really larger than most hotel rooms, but considering that it's on a cruise ship, it's huge! I texted Rachel to see where she was, and hearing that she was on the pool deck, I took that as my cue to go decorate her room. I had planned to decorate all three rooms, but time became an issue, and I was only able to make the decorations for one room. So of course, I had to decorate Rachel and Meredith's room (I figure they were going to be the ones to appreciate it, anyway). Is Victoria going to blame these bad photos on terrible lighting and high ISO? DSC_5848r by vshingl, on Flickr Yes, yes she is. Rare LittleMissMagic Posted June 14, 2012 Author #48 Share Posted June 14, 2012 (edited) When we returned to our room, our luggage was there, so we unpacked. I had just finished unpacking when our stateroom attendant came by to tell us that it was almost time for muster. Looking at my watch, we still had ten more minutes, so we waited in the room until the alarm sounded, then proceeded to Muster. Where everyone was already there. Hmm... I guess we should've listened. :D Our muster drill was led by a dancer. She had just gotten on the ship two weeks ago. She checked everyone off, then to kill time, she goes, "Who's ready to buy drinks? Who's ready to gamble? Who's ready to spend money???" I found that a little inappropriate during a safety drill... we were supposed to be learning what to do in case of emergency, and she was trying to start some money-spending pep rally. Not the time. Getting out of muster, we were quite congested in the hallway. We got out on the 7th deck through a narrow stateroom hallway, and letting out of the drill, people were trying to move in two directions. I'm not claustrophobic, but I was actually starting to get a little anxious. Hate to be a Debbie Downer here, but if you recall from my Adventure trip report, I'm an architecture major. I've already watched countless documentaries about the World Trade Center and 911 terrorist attacks. One of the problems with evacuating people is that the fire staircases were 44" wide, the industry standard. There were firefighters going up one side of the staircase, and people coming down the other side. However, due to the increasing girth of our population, 44" is no longer a comfortable width for two people to be side-by-side, especially not moving in different directions. The outcome, of course, is that evacuation wasn't as efficient as it could have been. Standing in that hallway, I wasn't even sure if it was 44." FINALLY getting out the hallway, we went straight to the top deck to PARTY!!! The pool was already hoppin' DSC_5853 by vshingl, on Flickr Good-bye, Escstacy! DSC_5856 by vshingl, on Flickr DSC_5857 by vshingl, on Flickr There was dancing! Rare LittleMissMagic Posted June 14, 2012 Author #50 Share Posted June 14, 2012 Now, a few of the girls boarded the ship with their bikinis on! Neither Meredith or Rachel were used to jumping in the pool as soon as they got on the ship, but they decided to go along with the crowd.
