Crown Princess from NYC in 2006

Is anyone as happy as I am that the Crown Princess will be sailing from NYC and include Bermuda as a port of call in 2006?

As one Left Coaster to another - I don't really care. I don't like NYC, think Bermuda is highly over-rated, and am not a fan of the mega-ships.

 

Give me Pacific Princess (new) homeported in San Francisco! Or some other ship under 75,000GRT.

I'm not a true left coaster, was born and raised in NYC but, I do love my adopted state of CA! We had a summer house on the Jersey shore in a town that is very quiet and reserved like Bermuda - I guess that's why I find it so appealing now but, I agree, Bermuda is not for everyone but, to each his own, that's what makes the world go 'round!

The Crown is only in Bermuda for about 8 hours, I believe the hours are 9am to 5pm and is docked at the dockyard.

Being from the Northeast I was excited when I first heard about the new Crown Princess and stopping in Bermuda. I have been to Bermuda and it is my favorite place. However, the prices seem high and only 7 to 8 hours in Bermuda is not enough time to do much. I like the Bermuda cruises that stay there for 3 1/2 days.

I would be excited....Maybe if it were a 7 day and not a 9 day?...b/c prices seem a little steep....I'm dying to try Princess and I do love the convience of sailing out of NYC....

Next summer there will be cruises to Bermuda from Philadelphia. 7 days on Empress of the Sea. Prices will be out next Wednesday I am told.

I can only cruise in the summer but when the day comes when I can cruise any time I want I don't think I'd cruise the Caribbean in Sept/Oct. especially out in the Atlantic. Hurricane season scares me :o

Just off CB last Sat. Wonderful ship. Booking Crown out of NY for 8/25/06. Prices seem steep, but if you caompare to RCL Voyager OTS 9 nite out of Bayonne- it's cheap! We booked in 8/04 for 8/05 and price for 3 for balcony is $500 more on the Voyager, and that's with our Platinum balcony discount. Look, you save airfare, which can be anywhere from $200pp to $600 pp depending on the time of year. It's all relative. Was on Voyager last Aug and going this Aug. Prefer Princess. So- excited -just working out details w/ TA (and using new TA this go-round). Will be 1st time in Bermuda- so we'll try to get a cab/car to see what the beaches look like and then we will return on another cruise! I'm even more excited about next year's Crown, than the Voyager.

You'll love Bermuda - very conservative and expensive, but it's so clean, you can eat off the sidewalks. The pink sand beaches among the cliffs in Southampton are breathtaking. If you love major nightlife and casinos, Bermuda is not for you. For the East-Coasters who like to unwind, it's perfect!

 

We're Amtraking it, or we may even drive to the Crown, so we'll save on air and hotel.

 

I had booked the RCI Jewel for the 8 day and cancelled. The cruise was $300 more for the same category cabin, plus we'd have air and hotel.

 

DH and I love Bermuda and NY. Will be in NY for 4 days next month. We would normally fly to Bermuda and spend a week, but just one day there will be perfect, imho. Also, this year Bermuda hotel rates are through the roof!

 

The Empress is not for us - it has no balcony staterooms.

 

We have absolutely no problem whatsoever with docking at Kings Wharf. We rent a moped/scooter (DH drives, used to own a motorcycle and is very careful) and cover a lot of the island in a short period of time. We'll just take off and visit our favorite places.

 

I'll tell DH about the Crown next summer. He has no idea - :-O ! ;)

Ditto Druke I. Ship too big and the prices are high. I live 1/2 hour outside of NYC and don't mind traveling by air to a port. Not impressed.

Well, this cruiser LOVES the Big Apple; everything about NYC is dynamic and vibrating with life and creativity.

 

We are happily booked on the Crown Princess for her July 20, 2006, 9 day sailing, and are really excited about it. We are particularly looking forward to her stop in Puerto Rico, and can't wait to walk the cobblestone streets of Old San Juan.

 

Right or left brainers, what's NOT to love?!

 

To us it's a NO brainer; a beautiful spanking new ship, a state-of-the-art newly designed and constructed port terminal, and an exciting new itinerary.

 

There will not be a more stunning and moving sailaway view, in my opinion, than the sight of Statue of Liberty herself imposed against a sparkling vision of the skyline of New York City.

Also glad the Crown will be going out of NYC. Gives me a chance to bring the whole family on a cruise. Only 2 hour drive from city and figure the cost of the cruise minus air fair will be about the same difference. We are bookeed for the June 23 cruise since we wanted to do the Bermuda stop.

We decided to rent a van for the trip down since the price to park is $28 per day and have a van there when we get off the ship. That will be a cost saving also. :p

I was excited until I saw the port times. I'd rather have more island time. Hopefully the next new ship will incorporate this. The changes to the ship sound great, but there has to be more time to go to the beach and snorkel.

I hear it is in a bad area.

We'll be sailing 7/20/05. Can someone tell me where Red Hook is located? Is this anywhere near bay Ridge or is it closer to the Queens border?

Yep, it's all relative. If some who think the price is high would just compare to the other ships going out of the east coast, then they would see the light.

 

As for Bermuda, we are keeping our expectations low so as not to be disappointed. We have been to the Caribbean and to Polynesia(Moorea, Bora Bora). I can't believe there is anything nicer than the latter.
