kentona Posted June 18, 2012 #1 Share Posted June 18, 2012 When we booked our cruise through the travel agent, the 'booking' software wouldn't allow the booking to proceed with the option not to upgrade ticked. We have booked a guaranteed 'JC' room, but am wondering what the likely hood of being upgraded is? We booked JC as on our only other cruise we had this grade then and quite liked being high up (on A Deck). How can I ensure that we don't get upgraded, as an upgrade could mean we end up lower down on the ship.
CASPALL Posted June 18, 2012 #2 Share Posted June 18, 2012 You just tell your TA you don't want to be upgraded. Caryl
cruiseluvva Posted June 18, 2012 #3 Share Posted June 18, 2012 Or ring P&O if you booked direct.
kentona Posted June 18, 2012 Author #4 Share Posted June 18, 2012 Our Travel Agent couldn't do it. She had to ring up P&O to find out why the booking wouldn't go through and once she was told asked how can we make sure we don't get an upgrade. She was told that we couldn't decline an upgrade. :-(
marylizcat Posted June 18, 2012 #5 Share Posted June 18, 2012 The reason you cannot refuse an upgrade is because you have booked a 'guaranteed' cabin. You can only state that you decline an upgrade if you have booked a particular cabin number. The nature of a guarantee cabin is that they can allocate you any cabin they like as long as it is of no lower grade than that booked.

Once you recieve your cabin number, you can opt out of upgrades if you like the room you have, as this is what we have done. We booked 2 guarantee rooms (one for us, one for our teens) and they allocated us 2 rooms on C deck opposite each other, so I rang P&O and 'locked' the rooms so that we couldnt be 'upgraded' and end up not being near each other :)

When we noticed on our Air Notification form from P&O that they had at that time allocated us a cabin on C deck, we rang to ask them not to upgrade us any more as C deck cabins have double area balconies :D
