Getting to Munich from Passau

Hi all, Hubby and I are cruising with Uniworld from Budapest to Passau 7/15 to 7/22. We are going on our own post cruise to Munich for a few days and therefore NO transfers have been included. Any suggestions will be appreciated. Right now we are leaning towards taking the train to Munich.

I am not sure what other options you are looking for but the station in Passau is small and easy to navigate and the trains in Germany are excellent. We travel by train frequently there and it is a pleasure.

You can connect from Munich's central station to public transport to your hotel, grab a taxi from the line outside, or do as we do and book nearby and just wheel your bags over. We pack light as we know we will have to carry our bags on and off trains and up and down ramps and stairs.

We stay at the Sofitel or Le Meridien, located adjacent to and across from the Hauptbahnof, respectively.

We had a similar situation on the Rhone last year with Uniworld.

A day or two before getting to the end of the cruise in Chalon, there was a big meeting in the lounge. Everyone was asked to write their flight times on a paper. The cruise director arranged the bus shuttles for the trips back to Lyon. We added our names to the list and she chose a not-full shuttle for us. When we arrived at the airport, we took a cab to our hotel.

Worked fine. Don't worry. cb

We did that two years ago. We stayed one night in Passau at the Wolf Passaur. It was a nice little hotel right on the Danube. We booked our train from home on the DB (Deutche Bahn) Website. Got the Bayern Fare--up to 5 people and a dog anywhere in Bavaria. It was an easy two hour ride to Munich. We booked a hotel close to the train station. Then when we had to fly back took the Lufthansa shuttle to the airport--picks up on the side of the train station.

The pricing for the Bayern Ticket has changed recently. It´s now 22 Euros for the first person and 4 Euros for each additional person (up to 5 adults). But you have to buy it at a ticket machine (which do have an English language option). At the counter the additional person it 6 Euros. No need to buy the ticket online in advance.

Make sure you catch a direct train to Munich. There are some trains where you have to connect. The Bayern Ticket is only valid for regional trains (not the fast ICE train, but that´s one you have to connect anyway).
