cruiserguy11 Posted June 26, 2012 #1 Share Posted June 26, 2012 a person boarded without giving a credit card or debit card at check-in, instead saying he/she will be opening a cash account once onboard. Then doesnt. I've always wondered what they would do, if anything, if a person said he/she was flat broke once on board.

lauraezzell Posted June 26, 2012 #4 Share Posted June 26, 2012 We travelled with a family that prepaid their gratuities and didn't put anything down (no cash, no credit card) for their cruise. They also didn't spend any money at all on the cruise (except for extra tips at the end) - no drinks, no pictures, no casino, no extra expenses at all. They received a couple of notices under their door that stated that if they were planning on making any onboard purchases, they needed to visit Guest Services. ccruisequeen Posted June 26, 2012 #5 Share Posted June 26, 2012 My mom gave her CC for my S&S card, but since she wasn't sailing (family emergency) they didn't apply it. I didn't know it until the middle of the cruise when I tried to get a disco ball drink & they sent me to Customer Service. Luckily I brought extra cash for the casino, so I applied that (just in time before the tips were charged!)

Rare chasinraynbowz Posted June 26, 2012 #8 Share Posted June 26, 2012 Wonder if they would let you board actually I suspect they would. We use cash and tell them when we check in, so they tell us to board and go to the Customer Service desk. I have heard from others on this board that we have up to 24 hours to put money on our account. I would not know that first hand since we always take care of it immediately as soon as we board. foxesden1 Posted June 26, 2012 #9 Share Posted June 26, 2012 Why would they stop you? You paid your fair, other then tipping ( assuming said person may have pre paid this) anything extra on board is your choice. It's not like you have to spent X amount of dollars once on board. BenjiRodney Posted June 26, 2012 #10 Share Posted June 26, 2012 I don't think the 24 hour rule is in place. I tried to get the soda card in 2010 and had to go put the cash on my card before they would authorize it.
lady_cruiser Posted June 26, 2012 #11 Share Posted June 26, 2012 Probably when you use your sign and sail card it will be flagged that no money or credit card information is in your account and you won't be able to make a purchase. That is the reason your card is taken when you order a drink and then your drink is brought to you after your card has been swiped.
ccruisequeen Posted June 26, 2012 #12 Share Posted June 26, 2012 Wonder if they would let you board actually They let ME BOARD with NO money-I enjoyed the cruise until the 3rd night when I found I was truely "cashless"! If the disco balls were offered earlier in the cruise I would have found out much sooner!
katiel53 Posted June 26, 2012 #13 Share Posted June 26, 2012 I think that if you put down nothing, after the first 24 hours, your S&S card would be rejected if you tried to use it. If you used it during the first 24 hours, and don't have cash/credit to back it up, when trying to get off the ship, your card would ding and you wouldn't be able to debark. I'm sure all along that Carnival would be telling you to pay up though, lol. I want to say I never have had this happen, as we use credit cards, but I did read a couple of years ago that a couple went over their cash on the last night, and it was a huge amount and they had to sign some kind of note agreeing to pay within 30 days or something. I don't remember if this was on Carnival or Royal Caribbean. If you have no charges, and unless you prepaid tips or removed them, (A topic for another thread again and again) if nothing is due, there shouldn't be a problem.
