momthecruisedirector Posted May 9, 2005 #1 Share Posted May 9, 2005 So, I'm thinking...who better to ask than you. If you had family coming to visit that hadn't been to Juneau before (and they were only going to be there for one day). where would you take them? Is there a special 'mom and pop' place you'd go? If it's touristy - that's fine, just wondering. Heck, I'd take you to the Space Needle and the Pike Place Market in addition to our favorite burger joint! Thanks, in advance. mbisson Posted May 9, 2005 #2 Share Posted May 9, 2005 First time my wife & I went to Juneau (she was raised there) she took me to the following (in no particular order): The cemetary to see the grave of Joe Juneau Mendenhall Glacier Shrine of St Terese (to me this is a must see) Juneau Waterfront & Red Dog Saloon (she worked there many years ago-But it was in a different location when she worked there) The grounds of the Univ of Alaska Juneau (beautiful) Baranof bar (check it out-classy) Alaska State Museum (Cool) -Monte
Kenwoody Posted May 9, 2005 #3 Share Posted May 9, 2005 Would you rent a car there, and do this own your own?
AK*Angel Posted May 9, 2005 #4 Share Posted May 9, 2005 I would rent a car, driving here is very easy, you can't get lost. One main road 45 miles from end-to-end. Here is where I've taken friends when they visit. Shrine of St. Therese Mendenhall Glacier Hangar or Twisted Fish for lunch State Museum Then walk around downtown and if we had time do the tram :) There is also Douglas island, nothing too exciting over there except Eaglecrest (our ski area) and sometimes driving up there you'll see bears and deer. I hope this helps. Its been gorgeous here for almost 3 weeks now, barely a drop of rain. Lots of pollen.....Its everywhere!
