princessdivaapril Posted June 29, 2012 #1 Share Posted June 29, 2012 Help? I know there is thread for this but cant find it. Don't know what to take to wear in MDR for casual and formal. How informal can we dress and still be ok formal night. Can he do shirt and tie without jacket? Can jeans and nice shorts be worn by men and women on nonformal nights. How about MDR at lunch? C&THollings Posted June 30, 2012 #7 Share Posted June 30, 2012 The dress code has gotten so lax that people wear about anything these days on formal night. Dress as much as you want or more casual. The men even wear polo's. I don't think they care much anymore. Just don't let him wear a tank top to breakfast, my hubby was not let in.
Rare Tapi Posted June 30, 2012 #8 Share Posted June 30, 2012 Based on what we saw aboard our Sensation cruise, T shirts, bandannas and ripped jeans should work just fine no matter whether it's casual or elegant night...:o Seriously, our short cruise aboard the Sensation was one of the most relaxed dress code cruises we've ever taken. Anybody who's a stickler for proper attire etiquette would've had a heart attack on that cruise!

How informal can we dress and still be ok formal night. Can he do shirt and tie without jacket? Can jeans and nice shorts be worn by men and women on nonformal nights. How about MDR at lunch? As per Carnival website: Most evenings we have a Cruise Casual dress code, but there are those Cruise Elegant evenings one or two nights throughout the voyage where guests will have the opportunity to showcase their more elegant attire. Both dress codes for the dining rooms are described below and pertain to children as well. For those who want casual attire for dinner time, the Seaview Bistro on the Lido Deck is open nightly and has a more relaxed theme. However, shirts and shoes/footwear (flip-flops) must be worn at all times inside the Lido Restaurant. Dining Room - Cruise Casual Dining Dress Code Gentlemen: Sport slacks, khakis, jeans (no cut-offs), dress shorts (long), collared sport shirts. Ladies: Casual dresses, casual skirts or pants and blouses, summer dresses; Capri pants, dress shorts, jeans (no cut-offs). Not permitted in the dining room during the Cruise Casual dinner for ladies and gentlemen: shorts, gym shorts, basketball shorts, beach flip-flops, bathing suit attire, cut-off jeans, sleeveless shirts for men and baseball hats. Dining Room - Cruise Elegant Dining Dress Code Gentlemen: Dress slacks, dress shirts. We also suggest a sport coat. If you wish to wear suits and ties or tuxedos, by all means we invite you to do so. Ladies: Cocktail dresses, pantsuits, elegant skirts and blouses; if you'd like to show off your evening gowns, that's great too! Not permitted in the dining room during Cruise Elegant dinner for ladies and gentlemen: shorts, gym shorts, T-shirts, beach flip-flops, bathing suit attire, jeans, cut-off jeans, sleeveless shirts for men, sportswear, and baseball hats. Cruise Elegant Evenings The length of the cruise determines the number of Cruise Elegant evenings in the Dining Room. The first Cruise Elegant evening is scheduled for the 2nd or 3rd day of the cruise; the second Cruise Elegant evening is scheduled for the 2nd or 3rd day prior to the end of the cruise, schedules permitting. 1-day cruise: none 2-day to 5-day cruise: one Cruise Elegant evening 6-day or longer cruise: two Cruise Elegant evenings Note exception: Carnival Magic Europe 7-day and 9-day: One Cruise Elegant evening ****************************************************************** End Document

It is nice to see that the cruise lines are publishing the relaxed codes that have been practices on the ships for quite some time. This will help end some of the heated discussions on the CC boards.
