On the 6-30-12 Liberty... Diamond/Milestone sailing

Recommended Posts

You REALLY have to love (hate?) the Carnival website...

It took A LOT of attempts to add my Legend booking back in so that I could (ATTEMPT) to manage it. I am sure that most of you experienced the loss of some/all future sailings in the last few weeks with the roll out of the new program.

I was able to see the $199 Cabana I had previously paid for, but now it shows that it was a $225.95 purchase... even though it shows as now available (4 remaining) at $199. So, I cancelled it like I did for the Liberty and now the system is acting screwy again. I should probably say that it's acting screwy like normal, and I was only able to fully access it for a short period of time when it was acting (not) screwy!

Now the website won't even take me to the listing of excursions (for any ports). When I click on PLAN ACTIVITIES (or other similar options) it keeps looping me back to the main booking (My Cruise Manager) info page...

The current code is :

BGT002

Btw, I have NO IDEA where these codes come from. I had never even heard of them before our Hawaiian cruise.

Someone here on Cruise Critic mentioned it....THANKS to whomever that was!!!
That one apparently no longer applies... no problems though, at least I am able to access my booking again!

Back to the Liberty cruise, just got several photos posted on SmugMug (need to do a lot of updating there for other cruises and such) - and wanted to show the very nice cake that made its way to me during dinner on the 4th:

In that one day I ate more sweets/chocolate than I had in the previous two months combined, having switched to a pretty much "no added sugar" eating theme. Still, I managed to LOSE TWO POUNDS on this cruise... amazing! Of course, some of that is due to only eating breakfast (really) on ONE morning - thanks to sleeping in until almost lunch!
That's a beautiful cake. Really nice of them to that for you :)
That's pretty much how the whole sailing went - they went out of their way to show us a good time, if felt sincere.

By Saturday evening I had already sent a long letter to Carnival thanking several departments and individuals onboard, as well as complements regarding both the 2.0 updates and Guest Loyalty program changes.

Quite impressive, both Carnival's actions and your response :)

Hi tom-cheryl...loved your thread..Sailed same week as you, but missed the past guest party :( Had a great week on the liberty. Had not sailed carnival in years and was pleasantly suprised. Was totally bummed when we got to our cabin and the door was open with blowers on the carpet. Just cleaned...figured someone got sick...eewww! They kept in constant contact with us. as the floor was not drying and was wet for days. Offered to move us to a different cabin....NOT! So they gave us a $150 credit, a bottle of wine at dinner..fine by me :)...
Loved the ports..Did the twister boat in Cozumel. Absolute riot! Belize cave tubing. Really enjoyed and was talked into that one by my two neices. Roatan we did "walk on the wildside" tour. Monkeys were awesome and all the iguanas. Grand cayman, we rented a cabana at the Royal Palms. Nice relaxing day!
I agree with you the burgers WERE delicious. Also enjoyed the fish and chips. Dinners in the MDR a couple of days were not so hot..but otherwise good.
I loved Karl(with a K)..thought he was great!
Glad you enjoyed your cruise!!!

Sorry we didn't have a chance to meet, but I am sure we crossed paths at some point!

I recall Cheryl mentioning a place in Grand Cayman for a beach day, not sure if it was the Royal Palms. I'll have to look into that for our next trip there!

Royal Palms is a great place in GC! A nice relaxing beach day and very pretty. Had excellent service as well. It's been a couple of years since I have been there but based on my experience I would recommend it and I think you guys would like it.

Thanks for the Diamond experience updates. I will become Diamond on my next cruise, and I just can't wait!!! Also, good to know you don't have to use the 25% on your actual 25th cruise. Hubby gets his milestone on the next cruise, so we can wait for a longer one.

Question - Has anyone used the one-time Diamond cabin upgrade benefit yet?

I am not aware of anyone who has used the cabin upgrade - or for that matter the 3rd/4th/5th in cabin for free.

Congrats on the achievement - they will treat you very well! :)
Karl is definitely out and about more than most CD's. We went to the "big show" last (Elegant) night. Prior to the show he indicated "are you ready for 70's ROCK?... do you like 80's ROCK?... then this is the show for you"! Imagine our surprise when they played no less than a dozen songs in a row from the 50's and 60's! We are talking sock hop here. FAR from the 70's and 80's! We left after about 30 minutes. Not worth the time... :( When I spoke to Karl later (listening to Music Asia in the casino... they are VERY good) about the "decades off" music he kind of shrugged it off and handed us Motown trivia slips, LOL. I asked him when the past guest party was going to occur and he confirmed the Wednesday date.

Docked in Cozumel right now, sitting in the shade of our balcony right now. Our plans are limited (really for this whole cruise). We'll be trying our first "Guy's" burger shortly, then off the ship for our obligatory margarita at Pancho's Backyard at the pier. Then, before we succumb to the Mexican sun/heat, we'll head straight back to the ship! :D

We've had two VERY good meals in the Steakhouse - looking forward to #3 this evening.

I was told that the BJ tournament on the first sea day was unusual, and that they usually had a slot tournament that day. This was due to the 4th falling on a Wednesday and they wanted to have a BIG slot tournament that day, with a special $1,000 prize (instead of the usual $500). That should be a busy event! The casino staff (dealers, hosts, manager) are all great folks. When we dined at Diamond's last night, they had apparently arranged for that night to be complimentary, with the wine as well. We had already ordered the wine the evening prior, so that it could be decanted prior to our arrival. So I was pleased that it was the night they picked to cover it all, being that it was wine #464 on their list (someone out there can do the searching on that one)!! :)

We did utilize the laundry service yesterday around noon for a few items, and were surprised to see it returned before 6 PM the same day!

We have ordered room service a couple of times and had fast service (15 minutes) each time.

The bed does not seem as comfortable as we have experience in times past - and Carnival's beds have usually been our favorite among cruise lines. Perhaps these are getting near the end of their service life.

OK -- time to get the rest of the day going... bound to have a brilliant time! :D

Can you tell me if Cozumel local time matched ship time?
Did the Liberty stay on Florida time the whole time?

All that I know is that the ship time went unchanged the entire week (normal for Carnival). I never paid attention to local time as we did not book any private excursions, and did not cut it close getting back to the ship at the two ports we got off (Cozumel and Roatan).
